Meet the Director
Pioneer’s onsite director of food operations is Dan Steinbach. Dan quickly worked his way through management from MIT to production manager to director. After serving as food service director at Southwestern Christian University in Oklahoma City for two years, Dan and his family moved to Jersey City during the 2020 pandemic to become Nyack’s food service director. During his first year, he assisted the college to establish an incredible program throughout the school’s move to Jersey City, ongoing construction, and Covid. Dan works alongside the students and emphasizes an open-door policy to actively understand what students desire and incorporate modern flavor palates and food trends.
Dan met his wife Michala while in college, were married in July 2017, and expanded their family with the birth of their son, Brady, in December 2018. They also have a five-year-old Siberian husky who never misses out on family adventures. During his off time, you will still find Dan in the kitchen always striving to improve his culinary expertise with concepts that often make their way into the dining hall. In the rare chance he’s not in the kitchen, you will find him out in nature hiking, kayaking, swimming, or fishing.
For any questions, please feel free to reach out via email or in person. “Stay up-to-date with what’s coming to your plate” on Instagram and Facebook by following the @NyackCollegeFoodService user handle. You can also follow Dan’s culinary journey on Instagram by following his @ResilientChef page.
