Guided by health officials, public policies and clinical care guidelines, below are COVID-19 protocols that are currently in place . Please review them in their entirety. Also note, the College will continue to monitor campus, local and national data, guidelines and policies and will update protocols as needed.
If you have symptoms of COVID-19
According to guidance from the CDC, New York State and New York City, any student or employee who tests positive for COVID-19 will be required to do the following:
- Stay home if you have COVID-19 symptoms and get tested as soon as possible.
- If you are sick but cannot get a test, stay home and follow the isolation guidelines (below) as if you were positive for COVID-19.
If you test positive for COVID-19
Residential Student:
- Regardless of your vaccination status, you will need to isolate at home for five days.
- Notify the Residence Life Staff at residencelife@nyack.edu or the on call phone 845-213-9145.
- You cannot come to campus during this time. Students must inform their faculty that they are required to isolate. Faculty will work with students to address their coursework.
- Inform close contacts, on and off campus, that you have received a positive test result.
- Day zero is the day of the onset of symptoms. Day one is the first full day after your symptoms developed.
- At the end of five days, if you have been fever-free for at least 24 hours without the aid of fever-reducing medication, you no longer need to be isolated.
- If you have a fever, continue to stay home until your fever resolves; this is without having taken medicine for 24 hours.
- Continue to wear a well-fitting mask for an additional five days after isolation.
- If you feel sick with a fever, cough, or difficulty breathing, you should:
- Call ahead to your doctor’s office or emergency room and advise them of your symptoms and potential exposure.
- For Emergency Call 911. Be prepared to give your temperature, symptoms, and where you have traveled.
- Students living in the residence halls will be provided isolation instructions by Residence Life. This may include moving to a temporary isolation room on campus, or at home (if you live within a 50 mile radius).
If you are self-isolating, notify us via the Student Self-Isolation Notification Form.
Commuter Student:
- Regardless of your vaccination status, you must isolate at home for five days or longer depending on your symptoms.
- You cannot come to campus during this time. Students must inform their faculty that they are required to isolate. Faculty will work with students to address their coursework.
- Separate from other family members, staying in a separate room and using a separate bathroom if possible.
- Inform close contacts, on and off campus, that you have received a positive test result.
- Day zero is the day of the onset of symptoms. Day one is the first full day after your symptoms developed.
- At the end of five days, if you have been fever-free for at least 24 hours without the aid of fever-reducing medication, you no longer need to isolate.
- Continue to wear your mask around others for five additional days after isolation.
- If you have a fever, continue to stay home until your fever resolves; this is without having taken medicine for 24 hours.
- If you feel sick with a fever, cough, or difficulty breathing, you should:
- Call ahead to your doctor’s office or emergency room and advise them of your symptoms and potential exposure.

If you are exposed to a Positive COVID-19 Case
- Quarantine is no longer recommended for those who have been exposed to COVID-19.
- Regardless of vaccination status if you are exposed to someone with COVID-19 you should wear a high-quality mask for 10 days.
- Get tested on day 5.
Visitation
Resident students may have visitors as per residence life guidelines; however, they are only permitted to have Alliance University residential students as visitors in the residence halls during the semester. There are no overnight guests permitted at this time.
