Mei Chen Liu, (Megan Wu), conductor of the Choir and Handbell Choir at the Chinese Christian Church of New Jersey, will perform an original composition at the Nyack College School of Music recital at Steinway Hall located at 1133 Avenue of the Americas at 43rd Street in Manhattan on November 4 at 7:00 PM.
Mrs. Liu, a composition major, first audited ensembles at Nyack in order to participate in Nyack Rockland’s Handbell Choir to acquire skills with the goal of establishing a handbell choir at her church. She was also a member of the Nyack’s Women’s Chorus and participated in the Carol and Candlelight Tour and two Nyack Chorale concerts at Lincoln Center.
After studying piano with music professor Dr. Tammy Lum for two semesters, she was encouraged by Dr. Lum to become a full-time student. Her talent and proficiency in piano earned her a School of Music scholarship.
A wife and the mother of college-aged fraternal twins, Mei Chen Liu is currently a Nyack sophomore—after transferring college credits from nearly 25 years ago! She’s proof that “it’s never too late to be who you might have been.”
