The campus community of Nyack College has learned that Jacky Chung Yeung Ho, a Nyack adjunct professor and 2018 Nyack alumnus, passed away on Thursday, May 13.
Dr. Denise Hirschlein, an assistant professor of interdisciplinary studies, fondly remembers the summa cum laude psychology major.
“Jacky was one of the brightest and best of Nyack’s graduates. Dr. Stephen Maret, Dr. Amy Flavin, and I quickly saw the extraordinary scholarly potential in him and sought to encourage and nurture his instinctive academic aptitudes. Jacky quickly mastered the demanding subject matter encompassed in the following courses: statistics, experimental psychology, and psychology research skills. His fellow students also recognized his remarkable intellectual skills. They often sought him out for informal tutoring, and consequently he became a part of the Nyack tutoring staff.”
“After Jacky earned his master’s degree, Dr. Maret hired him to teach Psychology Research Skills. Before long, Jacky was also teaching statistics and experimental psych. Jacky was a bit of a perfectionist, but the students quickly realized that they had in Jacky a devout instructor. He was tireless in being accessible to students who wanted to learn. The Psychology Department faculty found Jacky endearing, eager to learn, and eager to pass on what he learned. Jacky was a quiet introvert with a dry wit. We lost a scholar and a colleague, and the students have lost an accomplished instructor. At 25 years old, he is gone too soon.”
