Empower, the certificate program designed by women for women to grow in their personal relationship with God and in their ministry and leadership gifting, was established by the Metropolitan District of the C&MA and Alliance Theological Seminary/Nyack College in 2012.
The success of the program, directed by Dr. Wanda Walborn, has been remarkable. After holding its seventh Celebration Service last month, early bird registration for the 2019-2020 year of study will kick off on Saturday, June 15. The final registration deadline is August 15.
The program has expanded from its national status to being international! The number of 2019 graduates from each location are a reflection of the program’s strength and appeal: 45 from Nyack, NY; 25 from Manahawkin, NJ; 8 from San Jose, CA; 9 from Bakersfield, CA and 7 livestream. Online cohorts were based in Pennsylvania, Alaska and Qatar. EMPOWERengage students were based in Ohio, Iowa, California, Kosovo, Hong Kong and Singapore. A cohort in Palestine will complete EMPOWERone in August 2019. New sites in Aliquippa, PA and Middletown, PA will be added this year.
Dr. Walborn says, “Women have gained confidence, discovered their spiritual gifts, understood more of God’s particular call upon their lives, built friendships and courageously stepped into new places of ministry.”
The new academic year begins Saturday, September 21, 2019. Classes will be held at the Alliance Theological Seminary campus in Manhattan at 2 Washington Street and will be livestreamed from Manahawkin, NJ; San Jose, CA; and Aliquippa, PA.
