Tricia Bent, a Nyack College Writing Center graduate student peer writing consultant and event coordinator, will present the second part of “The Pen of A Ready Writer: Photography Workshop” on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 from 5:00 PM to 6:15 PM in Room 1914 at the Nyack New York City campus located at 2 Washington Street.
While Tricia was pursuing her undergraduate degree in chemistry at Lehman College in 2001, her interest in photography was piqued by going into the darkroom to develop black and white film and prints. She had not considered pursuing photography as a career until 2006 when she met Jamaican wedding photographer Marcia Roberts, who became Tricia’s mentor. She worked with Marcia shooting weddings for two years and was encouraged by her mentor to launch a website to promote her work and to gain her own clientele.
In 2013, Tricia joined the team at Creative Media and Events as their event and magazine photographer. Her work has appeared in Ellements Magazine here in the U.S. Wealth Magazine and Home Sweet Home Magazine, two publications based in Jamaica, have also published her photographs. Jamaican companies Serge Island and Western Sports have used her images in corporate ads and publications. She has also written two tutorials for Digital Photography School (DPS), a well-known photography education website.
Currently Tricia is pursuing her master’s degree in biblical literature at Nyack. An avid photographer whose favorite compositions are portrait, architectural and fine-art photography, she hopes to one day have her phenomenal work on display in a gallery. Her love for the art form is captured in the words of the late American photographer Aaron Siskind: “Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever…it remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.”
