Orlando Suazo, (’10) is a senior editor at Green Buzz Agency, a video production company located in Washington, D.C. He is a part of the agency’s creative team led by Executive Producer Tod Plotkin, whose work, “A Boy and His Dog,” was nominated for an Emmy® in the “Short Format Program” category. Green Buzz Agency produced the film for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Mid-Atlantic chapter, which was shown at a Make-A-Wish fundraising gala.
Orlando explains that after the Make-A-Wish staff selects a child and family, Green Buzz conducts interviews pre-wish and post-wish. Cooper was this year’s, “Wish Kid,” who was diagnosed at four months old with a form of epilepsy called Dravet syndrome. The film documents the relationship between five-year-old Cooper and the wish he was granted—a service dog named Finn.
Storytelling is an art nurtured at Nyack College. Orlando, a communications major, found his voice for story through filmmaking.
“At Nyack, I spent my senior year making a short film as a part of my final project for my major. I always loved video and filmmaking, but I didn’t see a clear pathway to a career. I think I just trusted God to line up the dominoes, if you will, and my job was to knock them down. I learned a lot of my skills from my peers. The classes that were offered at the time offered me the freedom and creativity to explore what part of the filmmaking process I most enjoyed. After school, I made sure to chase any and all opportunities that came my way to improve.”
Orlando’s role at Green Buzz proves that the pursuit of his dream paid off.
“Nine years later, I have an amazing career in the industry working on content like Make-A-Wish. Honestly, in 2006, when I was a freshman if you told me this where I would end up I don’t know if I would have believed you. I fell in love with video editing at Nyack and now it’s my full-time job. I am doing it every day, and loving it.”
