March 31 | Nyack College Writing Center Premieres: The Dawkins Family

The Nyack Writing Center Alumni Spotlight on “Women, Family and Legacy” will premiere an interview featuring Nyack’s own, JR and LaToya Dawkins on March 31 at 5:00 PM on the Writing Center’s YouTube channel. They’ll lend their voices and offer insight on raising their family in the current climate of our country.

LaToya Dawkins, a 2009 graduate with honors from Nyack’s School of Education. While at Nyack, she was the student manager of the Academic Success and Writing Center, and played several roles for the More Than Conquerors Gospel Choir, including serving as president. She earned her master’s degree in curriculum and instruction in 2013 from the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania. After more than a decade in the field of education working with young children as an educator and a program director, she is currently employed as a Quality Rating Improvement System (QRIS) educational consultant with Grow NJ Kids, a state-sponsored effort to raise the quality of child care and early learning throughout New Jersey and Prevent Child Abuse NJ, one in a network of 50 chapters nationwide that advocate for “great childhoods, positive parenting and healthy child development.”

JR Dawkins earned undergraduate and graduate degrees at Nyack, completing a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 2007 and an MBA in 2011. At Nyack, he served as vice president of the Business Club and was president of the More Than Conquerors Choir. Currently, JR is a senior product manager with Verizon Media. He is also a professional photographer

After meeting on the Nyack Rockland campus in the winter of 2005, their friendship blossomed and in 2009, the two were married. They will celebrate their 12th wedding anniversary this summer. From their union, they cherish two beautiful sons, Trey and Jayden. The family attends Mt. Olive House of Prayer in Jersey City, NJ where they work together in youth ministry and media. Their combined passion for innovation and creativity in the Kingdom of God is fuels their mission to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ.
