One of the less visible yet pervasive pandemic scars of 2020 was mental health struggles. The need for counseling escalated as those who sheltered in and those who lacked shelter wrestled with the impact of COVID-19. Countless alumni who studied at Nyack were perfectly prepared to join the ranks of essential workers.
Jianny Adamo is a 2007 Alliance Graduate School of Counseling (AGSC) alumna who did not have the convenience of online studies in the early 2000s. After speaking with the dean, she knew that a school like Nyack, which supported her faith, was where she wanted to pursue her studies. In addition to her AGSC degree, she holds mental health counseling licenses to practice in Florida and New Jersey.
She explains, “I have over 14 years of clinical experience including 10 years as a telehealth therapist. I specialize in relationships and intimacy, working with clients on a variety of love challenges including dating, communication skills, conflict resolution, pre/marriage counseling, narcissistic abuse, divorce, betrayal, and recovery. Since about one-third of my clients were telehealth at the onset of COVID-19, business decreased and I transitioned the rest of my clients to online counseling. Within a couple of months two things become clear to me: 1) that the pandemic would be with us for a long while and 2) that in order to practice safely, I would not be returning to my physical office. So far it was the best decision I could have made.”
In March 2020, when the pandemic was at a peak, Jianny lost half of her clients. Ironically, what appeared to be a shortfall would soon reverse as technology provided the perfect solution of telehealth.
“By April 2020, I doubled my clientele making up for all the clients who left. I have stayed consistently busy and in 2020 I had my best financial year since I founded Fearless Love, LLC in 2011. I found that the stress produced by the pandemic made it easier to help my clients have their breakthrough faster than if we didn’t have the pandemic. The pandemic pushed us all out of our comfort zones. Everything we had in our lives to anesthetize and escape anxieties was gone. With nowhere else to turn, it has been easy for me to see my clients’ vulnerabilities and wounds and provide them the best level of care for their healing,” she shares.
The former Bergen County resident says, “The majority of my clients are local to Florida. However, since I maintain my NJ license, I have consistently worked with clients from New Jersey. I am also a certified relationship coach so that opened the door for me to work with couples and individuals across the states as well as with clients around the globe.
In addition to her successful counseling practice, Jianny Adamo hosts Passion Unlimited Podcast on Apple Podcast, iHeartRadio, Spotify, and YouTube as well as a blog. She is also the author of From Love Trauma to Fearless Love: 7 Tango Steps for Breaking Free from Narcissists and Predators, available on Kindle, Audiobook and paperback. She calls her book self-help fiction as “the heroine’s journey explores the inner suffering and silent world of victims of narcissistic abuse and the steps to overcome it.”
Among the various publishing industry organizations that received her book, notably the prestigious Kirkus Review called it, “A valuable guide to recognizing predatory behavior and surviving sexual abuse…the tango provides an innovative approach to recovering from a toxic relationship and wresting strength and autonomy out of hopelessness and shame.” AudiobookReviewer.com presented her with the 2020 Audio Book Reviewer Award for New Author, raved “Powerful self-discovery through the Tango! This was an excellent example of masterful writing.”
And what’s her advice to AGSC students?
“For anyone who’s been called to the mission field of healing and transformation, our journey is filled with challenges. The best gift you can give yourself is to surround yourself with people who believe in your dreams. Our biggest mission field is wrestling with our own traumas and limiting beliefs. Everything falls into place as we renew our minds and heal our hearts. Don’t ever give up. If the Lord is with you, then who could be against you?”
