Dr. Nathaniel Perez, Chair of Developmental Education in Nyack’s Division of Student Success recently served as a judge at the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Oratory Contest held at Hudson Valley’s community Nyack Center.
This contest is a celebration of the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and is open to all Rockland County youth, ages 13-20 and first-time college students and junior college students seeking admission to a four-year institution.
Contestants prepared and delivered a 3-5 minute segment of a speech or letter by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Delivery was judged on content, understanding of the material, interpretation, ability to stay within the allotted time frame, and overall presentation. Awards presented to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners includes scholarship opportunities for students to be prospective Nyack College students.
Dr. Perez commented, “The young people were impressive!”
