President Michael G. Scales and Vice President and Dean Ronald Walborn of Nyack College and Alliance Theological Seminary (ATS) are pleased to announce the promotion of Dr. Charles Galbreath—a partnering faculty member and director of field education since 2014—to the new role of Alliance Theological Seminary Associate Dean.
The Reverend Dr. Charles O. Galbreath, affectionately known as “Pastor Charles,” is also the senior pastor of Clarendon Road Church, a Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA) ministry in Brooklyn, NY. In May 2017, Pastor Charles was elected to the C&MA Board of Directors. He previously served as a member of the District Executive Committee of the C&MA’s Metropolitan District and was former vice president of the denomination’s Association of African-American Churches.
His extraordinary leadership has gained notable recognition and appointments to highly visible civic service roles. In May 2020, he was named to the New York City Mayor’s Faith-based Sector Advisory Council that helps shape the City’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, he is the chairperson of New York State Senator Kevin Park’s Census Complete Count Committee; treasurer of the New York City Police Department’s 67th Precinct Clergy Council; a member of Brooklyn Community Board 17 and the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center’s Community Advisory Board. He is a past co-chair of the 45th Council District Committee in Brooklyn, NY.
Deeply loved and highly respected by students, staff, faculty and administrators, Dr. Galbreath is himself a product of Nyack College and ATS. For approximately three years, he interned and worked in the President’s Office. Proudly commenting on the accomplished alumnus, Dr. Scales says, “No one embodies Nyack/ATS values and DNA more than Dr. Charles Galbreath.”
He earned his bachelor’s degree at Nyack, graduating magna cum laude in 2006 and holds an M.Div. from Alliance Theological Seminary in 2009. His Th.M. was completed at Princeton Theological Seminary. Pastor Charles earned his Ph.D. from Fordham University’s Graduate School of Religion and Religious Education in 2020.
The 2017 Fordham University inductee into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, was named the Nyack College “Young Alumnus of the Year” in 2011 and this fall, he was recognized as the Alliance Theological Seminary “2020 Alumnus of the Year.”
While this son of a pastor and preacher was raised in the Baptist and Pentecostal traditions, mainline to evangelical experiences have also enriched his faith journey. Ministries in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Harlem, Queens and Brooklyn have been blessed by his service.
Charles is married to his college sweetheart, Flobien Vidal Galbreath, a 2005 Nyack College alumna. They are the proud parents of Charles Oliver Galbreath, Jr. (C.J.), Malia Marie Galbreath and Greyson Alexander Galbreath.
Join the campus community in congratulating Dr. Charles Galbreath on his exciting new role on the Alliance Theological Seminary leadership team.
