Visible. Saturday, May 7 at 2:00 PM is the finish line now in view for the Class of 2022 at Nyack College and Alliance Theological Seminary. After two years of virtual celebrations, Commencement will be held in person for all graduates at the Coney Island Amphitheater in Brooklyn, NY and livestreamed on Nyack’s YouTube and Facebook Live platforms.
Epic. Ushered in by the Greater Metropolitan Pipe and Drum Band, administrators, faculty, institutional leadership and trustees will be followed by undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degree graduates along with members of the classes of 2020 and 2021.
Inaugural. President Rajan S. Mathews, the first chief officer of color to lead the institution, will officiate his first Nyack/ATS Commencement ceremony.
Historic. In 2017, Alliance Theological Seminary accepted the invitation from the Tin Lanh Church in South Vietnam to help launch a master’s program at the Vietnam Institute of Bible and Theology. ATS professors traveled to Ho Chi Minh City to coach them through the development of the curriculum. Dr. Nhiem Thai Tran, a 2015 ATS Doctor of Ministry graduate, now serves as the program director. In the audience celebrating with these graduates and the campus community will be delegates and church leaders from the Evangelical Church of Vietnam, North and South.
Mellifluous. The exquisite talent of Nyack College School of Music faculty and students will be featured. Prof. Christina Lamberti, mezzo soprano, will perform “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Dr. Dana Talley will lead corporate singing of “Be Thou My Vision” and “And Can It Be?” Nyack’s Christian Folk Ensemble will share their stunning performance of “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” and “Total Praise.”
Genesis and Revelation. This 139th graduation ceremony for Nyack and ATS will be like none before it. We know a great cloud of witnesses will watch the past and the future intersect to usher the 140-year-old institution into a new day!
