Sunday, November 4, 2007, Nyack College School of Music students from Rockland campus were featured in a two-hour concert sponsored by the Hudson Valley Piano Club (HPVC) at Nauraushaun Presbyterian Church in Pearl River, NY where Rev. Laura Cunningham is the pastor. Proceeds from this SOS (Supporting Our Schools) concert benefited East Ramapo School District music programs at Hillcrest and Colton Schools.
Directed by Professor Joel Jameson, the performers were Hae Eun Baek, Eunice Kim, Anwar Sawyer, John Walsh, pianists; Wendy Godshall, flutist; Britt Taylor, Michela Hebert, Anna Hebert, Charity Stephenson, sopranos; and Ashley Maynard, mezzo-soprano.
Prof. Jameson shares that during the program's intermission, Sarah Chauncey, co-founder of HVPC, commented to the audience that the Club customarily presents masters and doctoral students at their recitals. Because of the caliber of the undergraduate performers, she told the audience, "I am blown away!"
Equally encouraging, was the response of a parent whose daughter has already been accepted at other top colleges in the east. She, the wife of an opera singer in Germany, told Prof. Jameson that after hearing the Nyack performance, the young lady will be applying to Nyack.
As he has on many other occasions, the Nyack College Chorale director overheard the audience sentiment, "This School Of Music is the best kept secret in the Hudson Valley!"
Congratulations are due to both students and faculty for representing Nyack so well with this performing arts outreach.
