Nyack Rockland Dean's Personal 9/11 Reflection

Posted by Deborah.Walker on Monday September 11, 2017

A tragic day in American history, now sixteen years ago, was recalled in a personal way at the morning chapel service held in Pardington Hall at Nyack College in Rockland County. Dean of Students Wanda Velez was the speaker.

Citing Proverbs 18:24, (Friends come and friends go, but a true friend sticks by you like family, The Message), in her poignant reflection on 9/11, she urged students to use wisdom in choosing friends and in being a friend.  Her talk masterfully integrated a snapshot of the relationship with her dear friend, Manuel Del Valle, Jr., a New York City firefighter who lost his life on September 11, 2001—one of more than 3,000 gone, but not forgotten.
