Hannah is enrolling in the science program at Nyack and will look to enter the nursing program.

LYNDHURST, N.J. – In game 1 Nyack College freshman Kia Jelly pitched another 1 hitter that led the Lady Warriors to a 2-1 Game victory over Felician College. However, a three-hit shutout by Felician’s pitcher Kristina Jimenez kept Nyack from putting any runs on the board in the 2nd game. Felician scored their one run on a fielding error made by first baseman Bethany Reed. Their runner made it to second base and continued to third base. Nyack’s second baseman Kathleen Mcclain had a wild throw to third allowing Felician to score that run.

In Game 1 Jelly struck out seven batters and had no walks. Freshman Jackie Gonzalez led the first inning off with a single to hit to left field. She then advanced to 2nd on a walk by Senior Victoria Leonard. Both advanced to 2nd and third on a bunt hit by Bethany Reed. Gonzalez scored on a throwing error. Bethany Reed came through once again in the 5th inning with a run-scoring double in the fifth.  Felician scored one run in the bottom of the 7th.

Nyack (7-29, 5-14) will face Chestnut Hill College on their home field in Nyack, NY on Saturday April 23, 2011. The double header is scheduled for 12pm and 2pm.

Nyack Softball Falls in a CACC Double Header Against Caldwell

Nyack College softball team loses to Caldwell College 5-0 and 2-1 in eight innings Friday, April 08, 2011 at Caldwell Field.  The Lady Warriors now hold an overall record of 5 -22, and 3-7 in the conference.  

Caldwell jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning of Game 1 on a two-run double. Nyack still with no runs on the board, faced Caldwell In the bottom of the fourth with bases loaded on a walk, an error made by Nyack’s defense  and catcher's interference drew a walk to bring another one home for Caldwell. This put them at a 3-0 lead. Caldwell scored two more runs in the 6thon giving them a  5-0 advantage.

Pitcher Alex Devries gave up only four hits the entire game.

In game two, neither team scored until the top of the fourth. Kathleen McClain’s Double to right center bought a run in, putting the Lady Warriors at a 1-0 lead. Caldwell followed with a sacrifice fly to center making it a 1-1 game.  The game remained tied until the bottom of the eighth. An error made by Nyack’s defense allows a runner on first. That runner then steals second putting her in scoring position. With one out, Caldwell hits a single to left field scoring the game-winning run.

Pitcher Kia Jelley gave up only two hits in eight innings.

.The Lady Warriors play another CACC doubleheader on Monday, Apr. 11 against Georgian Court University. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. at Georgian Court.

Dominican College held a 2-0 lead in game one when the Lady Warriors fought back in the bottom of the 5th inning, putting four runs on the board. Taylor Brown ignited the fire after hitting a hard double to right center driving in 2 RBIs. Bethany Reed went 1 for 3 scoring a run and Kathleen Mcclain went 1 for 2 driving in 2 runs. Nyack earned 4 runs on 7 hits leading to a 4-2 victory. Alex Devries pitched a 2 hitter and was relieved by Kia Jelly in the top of the 6h, striking out 4 out of 7 batters.

In game two Nyack came out strong scoring 2 runs in the first inning. Pitcher Kia Jelley held Dominican’s bats back as they had only one hit in the fifth inning. Nyack tallied four runs in the fourth inning. Bethany Reed went 3 for 3 with a home run scoring 2 runs. Kathleen Mcclain Went 2 for 3 with a triple hit to right field, scoring a run for the Lady Warriors, while Taylor Brown Hit her second double for the day scoring a run. Alex Devries ended the game in the 6th inning with a 3 run home run. Nyack’s 13 hits gave them the 9-0 victory.

Nyack, NY- Nyack College women’s softball team split with University of the Sciences in Saturday’s double header on the Lady Warrior’s home field. Nyack rallied to defeat USP in the first game making for their first conference win of the season. In the bottom of the fourth, Freshman Kathleen Mcclain made it to first on a walk and then was able to cross home plate on a double hit by freshman Jackie Gonzalez. In the fifth inning, freshman Alex Devries started Nyack off with a base hit. Freshman Tesla Murillo followed with a base hit advancing Devries to third. Devries then scored as Murillo distracted USP’s defense by stealing second. Pitcher, Kia Jelley held USP’s bats back, obtaining ten strike outs and winning a 2-1 game.

Defensive errors and lack of hitting proved to be the undoing of the Nyack women’s softball team in the second game against USP. The Lady Warrior’s walk away with a 11-2 loss, dropping their record to 3-20 overall and 1-5 in CACC games.

The Warriors return to action on Monday, April 4, 2011 as they take on Queens College at their home field in Nyack, NY in a regional non-conference doubleheader.

Clermont, Fla. - The Nyack College Softball Team has returned from a 7 day, thirteen-game stretch down at the NTC Games in Clermont, Florida. The Lady Warriors dropped two tough non-conference games on the opening day, falling to East Stroudsburg University (3-0) and Millersville University (8-0). Nyack then rebounded with two wins against the College of St. Rose (13-5) and Franklin Pierce (5-0). The warriors could not pull it together from that day on, suffering from losses against NYIT (7 -5),double header against Bentley (3-0) and (8-0), STAC (2-1), Bridgeport (4-2), New Haven (5-0), U-Mass Lowell (11-2) and double header against St. Leo University (8-0) and (8-0). The Nyack College softball team returned to New York with a 2-11 overall record.

Offensively A pair of rookies led the Warriors at the plate while on the spring training trip. Freshman center fielder Jackie Gonzalez (San Antonio, TX.) and freshman shortstop Alex Devries (Bayshore, N.Y) each tallied 16 hits in their 36 at-bats, combining for 10 runs batted in. Gonzalez is leading the team with 7 singles, 9 doubles, and 1 triple. Devries and freshman catcher Tesla Murillo (Indio, CA.) are tied with 7 singles and 2 doubles. The first 3 homeruns of the season have been recorded in the books and were hit by freshman Shortstop Alex Devries (Bayshore, N.Y), freshman catcher Tesla Murillo (Indio, CA.), and junior outfielder Robin Meyers (Tuckerton, NJ)

Nyack’s freshman pitcher Kia Jelley (Deerfield, Mass) went 2 and 2 with wins over St. Rose and Franklin Pierce. Jelley was assisted by shortstop/pitcher Alex Devries (Bayshore, N.Y) throughout the remainder of the NTC Games and together they will battle the CACC conference games in the upcoming season.

The Warriors will open up play on Hill Top Field on Tuesday, March 22nd. Nyack will host the Mavericks of Mercy College in a non-conference double header beginning at 3pm.

As the softball season quickly approaches, the Nyack College softball team is hard at work honing their skills to take on their opponents in the 2011 season.  Nyack welcomes 7 new players who aim to get the Lady Warriors to the CACC playoffs this year. This young team is eager to play together and really build off of each other’s strengths. The strong camaraderie displayed on this team will transfer into great chemistry on the field.

The pitching staff will showcase freshman Kia Jelley (Deerfield, MA).Kia Jelley begins her freshman year with the Warriors after an outstanding high school career at Northfield Mount Hermon in Massachusetts. During her high school career she amassed over 500 career strikeouts from the mound and was named an All-Western Massachusetts selection her freshman and sophomore years and was named an All-Prep player as a Junior and Senior. Joining her on the mound will be freshman Alex Devries (Bay Shore, NY).Alexandra DeVries is a 3 sport Athlete who has garnered all-conference awards as a softball player, an All-County selection in bowling and an All-League volleyball player.  For the past 6 years and this summer, she has played travel softball with the Long Island Express.


Time behind the plate will be spent by Freshman Tesla Murillo (Indio, CA) She is strongly equipped to handle the Nyack pitching staff and has the ability to throw out any runner that is willing to test her arm. Also, seeing playing time around the diamond will be returner and Co-Captain Taylor Brown (Ellington, CT) Alex Devries (Bay Shore, NY) Kathleen McClain (New Haven, CT) and Bethany Reed (Tiverton, RI).

Our starting outfield for the 2011 season will be anchored by senior and co-captain Victoria Leonard (Newington, CT) Junior Natasha Brown (Seneca Falls, New York) and Freshmen Jackie Gonazolez (San Antonio, TX) and Becky Ferry (Rhinebeck, NY)

There are many ways to use the array of talent that the Lady Warriors have this season. How the season turns out depends on how much heart each one of these players are willing to give and the sacrifice they are committed to putting forth this upcoming season!

Nyack, NY-  Nyack College Softball Head Coach Joe Rodriguez has announced the Early Signing of two student athletes for the Fall of 2011.
 
Chelsea Macaluso, a pitcher from North Carolina which has just moved to Allentown, N.J. was ALL CONFERENCE 2007 thru 2010, FIRST TEAM 2009-2010,ALLSTATE 2008 thru 2010, VARSITY MVP 2010, and PLAYER OF THE YEAR in MECKLENBERG COUNTY, NC for 2009-2010 seasons.
 
She was the winning pitcher in THE BATTLE OF THE BORDER NC/SC in 2009 and also the VARSITY STATE CHAMP 2007thru 2010 Miss Macaluso not only brings softball accomplishments to Nyack  as she holds a 3.8 GPA and plans to enter the Business program.
 
Raina Bunai is from Long Island, New York and attends William Fyold High School. Raina has been a starter on the varsity softball since her freshman year. Having just finished her Junior year she was amongst RBI leaders in all of Suffolk County, and given the title Division 1  ALL LEAGUE PLAYER. She currently plays 3RD base for the Long Island Chargers 18U Gold team.

Rebecca Ferry comes to Nyack by way of Rhinebeck High School where she won 2 NYS class C championships.  Rebecca also was named an honorable mention all-star by the Poughkeepsie Journal and the Kingston Freeman.

Kia Jelley begins her freshman year with the Warriors after an outstanding high school career at Northfield Mount Hermon in Massachusetts.  During her high school career she amassed over 500 career strikeouts from the mound and was named an All-Western Massachusetts selection her freshman and sophomore years and was named an All-Prep player as a Junior and Senior.

Jackie Gonzalez will make the trip North this fall from her hometown San Antonio, Texas where she attended William Howard Taft. As a four year varsity starter in the class 5A big school division she lettered in both softball and cross country while at Taft.  While playing softball she helped her team win district championships and reach the state semi- finals twice.  Jackie was named to the EN all district team her freshman, junior and senior years, In the class room, she maintained a GPA of 3.4 and  received the Academic of English Scholars award.

Murilo is a resident of Indio, California where she recieved multiple accolades including 1st  Team,2nd Team, Honorable Mention, Best Defensive Player 2 Years in a row,All DVL, and 4Year Varsity Player and a Prayer Warrior.

Alexandra DeVries is a 3 sport Athlete who has garnered all-conference awards as a softball player, an All-County selection in bowling and an All-League volleyball player.  For the past 6 years and this summer, she has played travel softball with the Long Island Express.


 Theresa Hendrix has led Cheverus High  School over the past couple of years to be one of  the top teams in Western Maine (Class A). In her junior year as Co-Captain and pitcher she had a record of 11-5, 124 strikeouts with only 30 walks along with a 1.69 era..This past season for Cheverus she batted .446  with a slugging percentage of .804 leading the team in hits , doubles , tied for triples, and steals. She has made 2nd team all-conference the past two years.
In 2008 she lead  the U-16 Southern Maine Flames(one of the top softball programs in Northern New England) in hitting with a .448 batting average.  Hendrix was recently named runner up as Miss Maine softball player of the year.  http://www.bangordailynews.com/detail/147464.html

 


Theresa has been a 4 year varsity player in Softball, Field Hockey and Basketball and has been a captain in all three sports in her Junior and Senior years.Theresa is also a captain on the field hockey team that finished with a 15-2 and lost 2-1 in the Western Maine championship.Also, she was made the all-academic team in Field Hockey and Basketball. Her senior year in Basketball she made the All Defensive team(Western Maine class A)  2nd team all conference as she lead Cheverus to its best finish  in History (13-5)  .

 

 

Bethany Reed is from Tiverton R.I., and currently plays on the Bishop Stang High School softball team. Her primary defensive position is first base, and she is a three time EAC All-Star. In addition to that, she was named to the Fall River Herald News All-Scholastic softball team in 2009. From the age of 10, Beth has played  travel softball with the Southeastern Mass. Xtreme. While playing for the 18U Xtreme in 2009, she achieved a batting average of .425, with 2 homeruns and 32 RBI’s.

A bright spot in the loss for Nyack, Christina Perez would finish the day 3-4.

Nyack returns to action tomorrow when they play host to Caldwell College at home with game time set for 3 PM.
