  Making a Nyack education affordable.

Each year the office of Student Financial Services at the Nyack, NY Campus awards over $5 million in grants and scholarships to over 90% of our students. Each year we also roll out new grants and scholarships which helps in paying for school.

Listed below are the Grants and Scholarships that Nyack offers students enrolling in the Rockland Campus for the first time in 2008-2009

Academic Grants

Education Scholarship Competition - varies (NEW)

Students declaring a major in education are eligible to enter the education competition.  Grant amounts vary from $4,000 to $10,000.  For more details contact the School of Education. In order to participate, education majors must meet the GPA requirements >=3.0 and >=900 SAT (freshman) or >=3.0 for transfers as well as complete the education scholarship application, which includes a service grant application and an essay (choose 1 of 4).  Deadline for submission to the Admissions Office is May 1 2008.  Annual renewal of these scholarships is contingent on students remaining in the School of Education and maintaining a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

 

Honors Program Grant - $8,500 (NEW)

All students accepted and enrolled into the Honors Program will be given an Honors Program Grant to bring them up to the cap of $8,500.  This grant is renewable based on continued participation in the Honors Program and maintaining a 3.5 GPA (See the Honors Program for information on applying). This scholarship cannot be combined with other scholarships. 

 

National Honors Society Grant - $1,000

Awarded to all incoming freshmen that are active members of a National Honor Society chapter in their high school. Transferring students are NOT eligible for this grant. A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 is required for award renewal.

 

Nyack Scholars Grants - $1,000-12,000  (NEW)

Awarded based on high school GPA, SAT or ACT scores.  Eligibility is limited to first-year freshmen.  Students who meet both high school GPA and SAT or ACT criteria may be eligible for Nyack Scholar awards ranging from $1,000-$12,000 (Exact award amounts will be determined after student is accepted to Nyack and FAFSA is completed). 

Transfer students are not eligible for this grant unless you only transfer up to 19 credits.  Once you transfer in 20 credits or above, refer to the Transfer Academic Grant below. A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 is required for award renewal each year. 

 

A National Merit Finalist will automatically receive a grant to cover full tuition (NEW)

A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 is necessary for this grant to be renewable.


Transfer Academic Grants - $1,500-$3,000

Awarded to students transferring from programs at other eligible institutions. Recipients must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 to receive this grant. Awards range from $1,500 to $3,000 based on GPA. A student must have transferred at least 20 credits to be eligible for this grant (if transferred in less than 20 credits will be considered for the Nyack Scholars Program Grant).  A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 is required for award renewal.

 

Dean's List Scholarships - $500 (returning students only)

Annual awards based on being selected to the Dean's List during prior semesters at Nyack College. Students selected to the Dean's List both semester (fall 07 and spring 08) will be awarded $500 for 08-09. Scholarships are for one year only.

C&MA Constituent Grants

C&MA Undergraduate Grant Program - $12,500 (NEW FALL 2008)

New students from C&MA churches may receive a total of Nyack College grants over the CAP of $8,500 and up to $12,500 per year. This grant program requires applicants to have a C&MA pastor reference verifying active membership/attendance in a C&MA church and a minimum of 24 months of active ministry. Grants will be awarded up to the cap of $12,500 based on grant criteria within Nyack's grant program. Eligibility is dependent on the new student enrolling full-time as a resident student on the Rockland Campus.

C&MA Bible Quizzing Grant - $1,000

Awarded to any student who has been actively involved in quizzing for at least two years. Pastors should certify involvement on the pastor’s reference form or may do so in a separate letter. Requires a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA for renewal.

C&MA “MK” School Grant - $12,500 (NEW FALL 2008)

Awarded to any student who has attended a minimum of 2 years at a C&MA MK school (Alliance Academy in Quito, Ecuador; Dalat, Malaysia) or other approved evangelical MK schools (Black Forest Academy, Germany; Faith Academy, Philippines; Hinkson Academy,  Russia; Dakar Academy, Senegal). Other schools may be eligible as approved.  The award is $12,500 per year and requires a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA for renewal.

 

C&MA National Championship Level/Bible Quiz Finalist - $1,500

Awarded additionally to any student reaching the Annual International C&MA Bible Quizzing Finals. Requires a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA for renewal.

 

C&MA Hmong Scholarship - $5,000

Awarded to incoming new students who are from a C&MA Hmong Church.  If the qualifying student is a commuter they will only be eligible for $4,000 due to the institutional aid cap. Requires a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA for renewal.

 

C&MA Inter-cultural Ministry Grant - $3,000

Awarded to any student who is an active member of a U.S. or Canadian C&MA intercultural ministry.  A C&MA intercultural ministry is defined as a congregation listed as an Intercultural Ministry in the C&MA Prayer Directory and/or a C&MA congregation, which conducts bilingual services or services in a language other than English.  A C&MA pastor must complete the pastor’s reference form on the application.  Requires a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA for renewal.


C&MA Ministerial Dependent Grant - $3,000

Nyack College will give a yearly grant of $3,000 to unmarried dependents of C&MA ministers or missionaries.  The recipient must be a dependent of a person who is licensed and/or ordained and currently on a church, district, or missionary staff and whose major source of income is paid by a church, district, or mission board. The Office of Admissions will provide a verification form.  This form is to be filled out by the minister and verified by the church, district, or board treasurer.  Requires a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA for renewal.

 

C&MA LIFE Conference Grant - $1,000

Nyack College will give a yearly grant of $1,000 to any student who attends and applies to Nyack at the annual LIFE conference. Requires 2.5 cumulative GPA for renewal.

Achievement Grants

Music Achievement Grants - varies

Awarded to new students who demonstrate talent in music based upon an audition before music faculty. Grant amounts vary from $1,000 to $10,000 per year. Students presenting initial audition by March 1st of year of matriculation will be considered for call-back to the Invitational Scholarship Competition. Renewal is based on continued participation, faculty approval, and a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA. Interested students should contact the School of Music at 845-675-4MUS. 

 

Athletic Grants - varies

Athletes who meet NCAA qualifications and regulations. The awards are reviewed annually and require a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA for renewal. Awards are recommended by the coaches and approved by the Director of Athletics and by the Office of Student Financial Services. Contact the Athletics Department for more details.


Service Grants

Service Grant - $1,000 (NEW FOR 07-08)

The application needs to be filled out in its entirety and mailed to the Admissions Office at 1 South Blvd, Nyack, NY 10960 or faxed to 845-358-3047. Recipients may receive up to $1,000 annually. A 2.5 cumulative GPA must be maintained for renewal.

Summer Camp Staff Grants - $500

If a new student worked at an approved summer camp (All C&MA Summer Camps, Camp of the Woods, Mont Lawn Camp, or Deerfoot Lodge) for a minimum of 6 weeks during any summer prior to entering Nyack, the student will be awarded $500, not to exceed the institutional aid cap for resident and commuter students. A 2.5 cumulative GPA must be maintained for renewal.

Ministerial Dependent Grant - $2,000

Nyack College will give a yearly grant of $2,000 to dependents of non-C&MA ministers or missionaries. The recipient must be a dependent of a person who is licensed and/or ordained and currently on a church, district, or missionary staff and whose major source of income is paid by a church, district, or mission board. Geographic/Travel Grants

International Student Grant - $4,000

This grant is awarded to any student with non-citizen, non-resident status. The award is $4,000 per year.  Requires a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA for renewal.

Metropolitan NYC Urban Center Grant - $4,000

Awarded to students from any of the five New York City boroughs and the cities of Hoboken, Jersey City, Newark, Orange, Patterson, Union City, and Yonkers. Requires a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA for renewal.

U.S. Travel Grants - varies

Awarded to any student from the following regions:

Laura Chappell Pennsylvania Grant -  $1,500 per year for residents of PA.

Atlantic Region Grant - $2,000 per year for residents of DE, MD, VA, or Washington, DC.

Margaret Loris Ohio Grant -  $2,500 per year for residents of OH.

Mid-America Region Grant - $2,500 per year for residents of AL, FL, GA, IL, IN, KY, MI, MS, NC, SC, TN, or WV.

Western Region Grants -  $3,000 per year for residents of LA, MN or any state west of the Mississippi River.

Other Grants

Alumni Dependent Grant - $1,000

Dependent children of graduates of Nyack College (undergraduate programs only). Requires a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA for renewal.

Home School Grants - up to $3,000/yr

Students earn $1,000 toward a scholarship for every year they were home-schooled.  This scholarship is applied 25% each year. For example, if a student was home-schooled for eight years, he/she will receive an $8,000 scholarship ($2,000 per year). Requires a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA for renewal.
 

Messianic Studies Grant - $1,000

Awarded to any student who is a member of a Messianic Jewish community and is enrolled as a new student and attending full time at Nyack.  Renewal of the grant is based on maintaining a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA.

Part-Time Grants - $600

Available for students enrolling on a part-time basis (3-11 credits).  Award in the amount of $100 per credit up to a maximum of $600 (even if taking more than 6 credits per semester) will be awarded for part-time students per semester. Requires a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA for renewal.

 

Presidential Grants - varies

Annual awards based on financial need determined by the office of Student Financial Services.  Requires a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA for renewal.

 

Endowed Scholarships - varies (returning students only)

Available to returning students who re-enroll full-time for the 2008-2009 school year. Must submit application (available January 2008-deadline February 1, 2008). Must have received a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher during a prior semester at Nyack in order to apply. Amounts vary and scholarship awards are not renewable (valid for one year only). (not subject to the institutional aid CAP-see below).

Terms & Conditions for All Grants
A Student awarded a grant or scholarship above the institutional aid CAP of $8,500 forfeits eligibility to other grants.


A RESIDENT (on-campus) student may receive up to $8,500 per year in Nyack grants and scholarships.

A COMMUTER (off-campus)student is eligible for up to $4,000 per year in Nyack grants and scholarships.

All Nyack grants and scholarship apply to first-time students entering Nyack during the 2008-2009 academic year and requires full-time enrollment (at least 12 credits per semester).

Renewal of grants and scholarships is always dependent upon each student making Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). For details of these and all Nyack Financial Aid policies, refer to the Nyack Catalog.
