Music Ensembles (Nyack)
Students in all majors are invited
to participate in the ensembles listed below; acceptance is by audition.
The Nyack College Chorale
Photo by Andres Valenzuela Brass Ensemble Chorale Handbell Choir Students have the opportunity to perform traditional and contemporary music on the School of Music's impressive collection of Schulmerich Handbells (5 octaves), Melmark Choir Chimes, and Indonesian Angklungs. The Handbell Choir participates in the annual Carol and Candlelight and Sounds of Praise tours as well as at concerts and other events of the college. Opera Workshop Vocal students and alumni coach with internationally renowned opera singers in diction, movement, and acting. Studies culminate in a presentation of fully staged and costumed scenes, in the original languages. The ensemble has performed Carmen by Bizet, La Boheme by Puccini and will perform both Suor Angelica and La Traviata in the 2008-2009 school year. Prof. Sungrai Sohn, Director The Nyack String Orchestra is comprised of students, faculty, and community instrumentalists who perform a wide range of music from baroque to contemporary. The Nyack String Orchestra often performs with professional soloists on campus and in the community. Wind Ensemble Dr. Glenn Koponen, Director The Nyack Wind Ensemble is comprised of students, alumni, faculty, and community musicians. The emphasis is on original works for wind ensemble and concert band. The Wind Ensemble performs in several concerts each year. |
