Schedule for Graduation Ceremony
When arriving, all graduates and guests should enter the church through the main
entrance.
  • 8:30 am Graduates and faculty arrive and will be directed to waiting area
  • 9:00 am Rehearsal for graduating students and faculty
  • 9:50 am Faculty and Students Line-up for processional
  • 10:00 am Graduation ceremony begins!
Driving Directions
FROM WOODROW WILSON BRIDGE
From Virginia take the Woodrow Bridge, I-95/I-495, take exit 3B (Indianhead Highway/Forest Heights).  Proceed on Indianhead Highway to the third (3rd) traffic light.  At traffic light make a right onto Southern Avenue.  Proceed to 700 Southern Avenue and make a left into the church parking lot.

FROM SE/SW FREEWAY I-395
Proceed out SE/SW freeway to South Capitol Street exit.  Proceed on South Capitol Street (stay to your left and go under the bridge which is on M Street) across the South Capitol Street/Frederick Douglas Bridge.  Once on the bridge, move into the right hand land and stay to your right to continue on South Capitol Street.  Follow South Capitol Street past Bolling Air Force Base (should be in the left land and go under the overpass).  Continue on South Capitol Street (left lane) up the hill to the traffic light.  (When you get to this traffic light you should be in the middle lane).  Bear to your right through the traffic light and proceed on South Capitol Street to Southern Avenue.  Make a left on Southern.  You will see the church on your left.  You may park on Southern Avenue or make a left into the church parking lot.

FROM CAPITOL BELTWAY I-95/I-495 (MARYLAND)
From the Capitol Beltway take exit 4B (St Barnabas Road/Marlow Heights).  After taking exit, stay to your right.  Proceed on St. Barnabas Road to second (2nd) traffic light (should be left lane).  At traffic light make a left onto Wheeler Road.  Proceed on Wheeler Road across DC/Maryland line (2nd traffic light on Wheeler Road).  Make a left onto Southern Avenue.  Go through traffic light – church will be on your right.  Turn right into parking lot, or you may park on Southern Avenue.
   
If you miss exit 4B (St. Barnabas Road/Marlow Heights) take exit 3B (Indianhead Highway/Forest Heights).  Proceed on Indianhead Highway to the third (3rd) traffic light.  At traffic light, make a right onto Southern Avenue. You will see the church on your left.  You can park on Southern Avenue or make a left into the church’s parking lot.

What June 2009 Graduation Ceremony!
-More than 60 students will be “marching” or “walking” in the ceremony
(All are hereafter referred to as “graduates”)

When Saturday, June 27, 2009, at 10:00 a.m.
- 8:30 a.m. Graduates arrive and will be directed to a waiting area.
- 9:00 a.m. Rehearsal for students and faculty
- 9:50 a.m. Line-up and ceremony instructions provided
-10:00 a.m. Ceremony begins!
Caps and Gowns
-Caps and gowns will be available in the Nyack office for pick up during business
hours (9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) from June 21 through June 26th. If you need to come after
business hours, please call the office at 202-220-1300 to make arrangements.
-Ironing your robe before you arrive for the ceremony is recommended!
-Safety pins and bobby pins might be handy for keeping caps in place.
-Caps, gowns and tassels are “retainable” which means they are yours to keep.
-Please wear dress clothes under your gowns. 
Diplomas -During the ceremony EVERYONE will receive a blank diploma cover.
-There is a chance that diplomas will not arrive before the ceremony. In that case,
when they arrive, diplomas may be picked up from Nyack Office or sent by
to students by certified mail.
Ceremony -From the waiting area graduates will process into the sanctuary after the faculty.
-Highlights include: Student reflections, special music, Omicron Psi Honor Society
induction, Dr. Marie John’s commencement address,
and, of course, conferral of degrees!
-Following the ceremony, graduates will return to the waiting area to pick up
personal belongings.
More Information
Reception -Graduates and one guest are invited to a reception on Sunday, June 21, 2009.
-The reception will be held at 444 North Capitol Street, 8th Floor – Roof Top Terrace, Washington, DC 20001.
Graduation Announcements
-Students will be notified when to pick up graduation announcements.
-Graduates are welcome to have their own announcements made as desired.
Miscellaneous Details
Family and friends are welcome to take photos during the ceremony
and reception.
