FAFSA on the Web makes it easier than ever to apply for financial aid. It's fast and secure. Plus, your FAFSA will be less likely to contain errors.
You can save your FAFSA for up to 7 days at a time, so you don't have to complete the application in one sitting. When you're ready, your application will be transmitted to the federal processor within seconds.
FAFSA on the web is available around the clock, seven days a week, starting October 1, 2017 for 2018-2019 applications. Don't have a computer? Look into using one at your school or library.
Here's some Tips that will be helpful as you prepare to get the FAFSA done:
1. Read all instructions, work through each step and review your answers carefully-
Careless errors can delay processing, which could mean missed deadlines and dollars.
2. Be sure your name matches your name as it appears on your Social Security Card-
Using nickname or another name will delay processing. If you've changed your name, you'll need to update your records, with the Social Security Administration.
3. Make sure all tax information is accurate-
Please make sure to report 2016 tax data! The easiest and recommended way for you to complete or correct your FAFSA with accurate tax information is by using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool
4. Keep a copy of your FAFSA for your records-
Also keep a copy of all worksheets as well as the financial records you used to complete the FAFSA. We may ask for those documents later (Federal Taxes, W-2's, etc).
5. E-sign your FAFSA using your Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID login and provide an e-mail address to receive an estimate of your expected family contribution instantly-
You'll also receive a confirmation that your FAFSA was received. Be sure to print and keep the confirmation. For help with establishing your FSA ID for the first time, please follow this step-by-step tutorial
we have created for you.
6. Use your FSA ID to check on the status of your FAFSA-
You can also use the PIN to correct or print your Student Aid Report (SAR) and view your federal financial aid records at www.nslds.ed.gov
Keep your PIN confidential and in a safe place. You will use this every year when you file the FAFSA.
NO FSA ID? NO PROBLEM!
You can still complete the FAFSA online even if you don't have a FSA ID. Just print, sign and mail the signature page within 14 days. Don't let the FSA ID hold you back from filing!
