Christine Rosa de Freitas: Nyack’s 2018 Valedictorian

Christine Rosa de Freitas, a biblical and theological studies major, is the 2018 Nyack College valedictorian!

An enthusiastic worker, writer, actress and friend, her outstanding academic accomplishments are equaled by her vibrant personality. Impressively active in campus life, Christine has shared her original spoken word pieces at Writing Center events, where she is a peer consultant to students in need of guidance in writing and research. For the 2017 and 2018 editions of “The Fine Print,” a campus literary journal, she served as editor. Her acting talent has been showcased in the cast of Performing Arts Department productions and she is in the 2017-2018 cohort of “Woman,” Nyack’s rite of passage program. In addition to being an assistant in the Bailey Library archives, she has been a dormitory resident assistant. With a sincere heart for cultivating a hunger and thirst for God in others, she co-led an Office of Spiritual Formation small group called “The Beanfield.”

The native of Brazil, who lived in Kenya for three years prior to arriving on campus, is convinced that God prepared Nyack especially for her because of what she describes as “an amazing balance between academic challenge and nurturing community.” She plans to teach Bible at the college level and minister its message to the global church by blending creative expression with the biblical message.
