Turnitin is an online plagiarism prevention system that makes it easy to identify work submitted that is unoriginal work.  It is based on customized "Originality Reports".  Originality Reports are exact duplicates of submitted papers, except that any text either copied or paraphrased from the Internet or a database appears underlined, color-coded, and linked to its original online source.

The information contained in the reports gives users the ability to determine for themselves the extent to which any given work is plagiarized or original.  Submitted papers are compared not only against the entire Internet, but also against an exclusive database of previously submitted student papers (including other institutions across the United States using Turnitin).
