TAP TO EXPAND +
How can I make an appointment to see a tutor?
You must sign-up by putting your name in the schedule at the Writing Center or by scheduling an appointment online. Be sure to sign up for appointments in advance to secure your spots and to give yourself sufficient time to revise your papers after sessions with tutors.
When can I meet with a tutor?
The best way to secure a session is to make an appointment in advance. Tutors take walk-ins only when there are no other appointments or students who are waiting. Please note that tutors cannot work with you during class time. Therefore, please do not schedule appointments during your class time.
Who will be assisting me?
The Writing Center comprises both undergraduate and graduate tutors and the director who are all capable to assist you in every aspect of academic writing.
How long is a session?
Depending on the student’s needs and the nature of the assignment, tutoring sessions will vary. Please note, however, that tutors work with students for a maximum of one hour per session. You may sign up for more than one session per week, but they cannot be consecutive sessions.
What can I expect from a session?
You must be prepared to revise your paper more than once. You will experience a sense of achievement and acquire self-evaluative skills after leaving the Writing Center. Please remember that we are here to assist you and will not write your papers for you. Our purpose is to assist you to improve your writing.
What should I bring with me to a session?
You must bring the draft you are working on and be prepared to work with the writing tutor in order to improve your paper. It is helpful to bring your syllabus or assignment so that you and your writing tutor may have all relevant information at hand.
Can I drop off or e-mail my paper?
No. Students may not drop off or e-mail their papers. The Writing Center exists so that students can work with writing tutors on their assignments and in the process, become more effective and confident writers.
Can I bring an incomplete draft of my paper?
Yes. You do not need to have a completed draft before you meet with a tutor. You are encouraged to make and keep appointments even if you have not completed the entire assignment.
