A Tribute to Dr. Ronald E. Eastman
Chairman Emeritus, Board of Trustees
Nyack College/Alliance Theological Seminary

“It is an honor to pay tribute to a man, a gentle giant, who meant so much to Nyack College and Alliance Theological Seminary and to so many other organizations and boards including The Christian and Missionary Alliance, the Shell Point Board of Directors, and Ravi Zacharias International Ministries. But equally important to mention are the countless individual lives he touched—from seasoned or rising pastors and lay leaders to successful or aspiring business professionals; from emerging young servant-leaders to steadfast, immoveable senior citizens. Ron’s touch was indelible.

The impact of his service and of the love and kindness he and his wife, Marilyn, have consistently shown to the College and Seminary will be felt until Jesus returns and throughout eternity. We share this platform with others whose respect and admiration for Ron Eastman is reflected in the following statements of appreciation and condolence upon the news of his passing on August 1, 2015.

The life of my colleague, my friend, and my brother in Christ is best summed up in the words of the apostle Paul: “We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Thessalonians 1:3, NIV)

Dr. Michael G. Scales

Words from the Nyack College/ATS Community:

“Nyack has lost one of its dearest and most trusted friends, and Heaven has welcomed home one of the Kingdom’s most faithful servants. It is not an overstatement to say that Nyack would not be where it is today, were it not for the years of gifted leadership from Chairman Eastman. The Nyack and ATS family owe our chairman a debt of gratitude. He loved Nyack! The truth of these words comes to reality in Ron's home going: ‘Well done, thou good and faithful servant.’”

Rev. Scott G. Slocum

“Ron leaves a lasting legacy on Nyack, the Alliance, Ravi Zacharias International Ministries, Gideon International, and many ministries and people we don't even know about. Well done good and faithful servant.”

Rev. Rock Dillaman
Lead Pastor, Allegheny Center Alliance Church
Nyack College/ATS Trustee

“I believe that the following verses are a good description of our dear brother Dr. Ronald Eastman: ‘I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith, Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.’ Jean and I miss him already.”

Rev. Hector Ramirez

“I am not a fan of the word mentor. True mentors never use the word -- they just live their lives and in doing so help shape those around them. Ron Eastman was a mentor, friend and father figure in my life. He believed in me and invested in me personally and professionally. There will be much talk in the days ahead about his leadership, generous giving, commitment to ministries, etc. From my perspective his greatest gift to the Kingdom may be the younger men he mentored informally.”

Dr. David Jennings
Executive Vice President and Treasurer
Nyack College/ATS

“Many people will know and remember Ron Eastman for his impact on ministries like Nyack College and ATS. I will remember Mr. Eastman for his genuine kindness to my Dad as he suffered with a terminal illness. It takes a unique person to touch large organizations as well as neighbors in need. Mr. Eastman was truly that special friend. We saw Jesus living in him.”

Mr. Jeff Quinn
Vice President for College Relations
Nyack College/ATS

Words From Friends And Partnering Ministries:

From The Christian and Missionary Alliance:

“Earlier this year, as I stood by Ron’s bed at the Shell Point hospital, I was touched again by a man whose life exuded the grace of Jesus. Ron’s compassion for and contribution to this needy world were significant, consistent and life impacting. I’m a better leader, the C&MA is a better family and the world has seen more of Jesus because of Ron.”

Dr. John Stumbo
The Christian and Missionary Alliance

From Shell Point Village Retirement Community:

“I have been blessed to work with Ron Eastman for over 30 years in multiple capacities. I have served with him on the Nyack College Board of Directors, the C&MA Board of Directors, the Alliance Community for Retirement Living Board of Directors, and the Christian and Missionary Alliance Foundation Board of Directors at Shell Point. More recently, Shell Point has had the joy of having Ron and his wife Marilyn as residents at Shell Point Retirement Community, including the opportunity to minister to his physical needs in his last days of life at our Shell Point skilled nursing and hospice facility.

"During this enriched time of association with Ron, I came to know him as a man birthed out of the rich heritage of the Midwest that was committed to hard work and personal development. In addition to his outstanding career, I recall Ron often referencing the fact that he had come to a time in his life that his faithful religious practice needed to be converted to a personal commitment that created a passion for his service to the Lord. As I was privileged to work with him, I always admired the evidence of this personal commitment, first noted in his love for the Lord and His work, which naturally drove him to his involvement and dedication to his church, multiple Christian ministries, Board utilization of his management and financial skills, and a personal commitment of his financial resources to support all of these ministries. He was a man of unshakeable commitment and loyalty to his church, the denomination, and its many ministries.

"As Ron utilized his God-given skills in multiple Board environments, I will always remember him as a humble leader who possessed the wonderful gift of encouragement and support to leaders of ministry and service. Ron’s commitment to his Lord and the ministries for the ‘church family’ are a lauded evidence of a man who was committed to God who provided him the joy of salvation.”

   Dr. Peter Dys, President
   Shell Point Retirement Community

“I found Ron to be a great role model of how to act in the corporate world. I am reminded of Philippians 2:3 when I reflect on my experience with Ron. His humility and patient spirit imaged Jesus himself. I never heard a harsh word from Ron and despite his significant accomplishments in business, it was clear to me that he did not think of himself as higher than others. I thank God for the privilege of being able to watch strength through humility lived out in the life of Ron Eastman.”

   Mr. Steve Minter
The Christian and Missionary Alliance Foundation Board

“Wisdom, perception, and gifted implementation always filled Ron's agenda .On every board I served with him from Nyack to the Board of the Directors of The Christian and Missionary Alliance, he continued to exhibit amazing understanding of the complexity of any issue, its financial implications, and possible solutions. He was a man of faith and hope full of compassion and courage. Loved by all and deeply respected, Ron demonstrated Christ-like attributes in every situation. He was a gift from the Lord to so many organizations and has now received his W.D. degree—Well Done. A true servant of the Lord and a leader among leaders at the highest level!”

   Dr. Mark T. O'Farrell
The Christian and Missionary Alliance Foundation Board

“Ron Eastman provided my first impression of Shell Point when, as Board Chairman, he welcomed me aboard... and I will always remember his warm and caring introduction to the organization. A soft spoken Midwesterner, Ron combined an extraordinary mix of humor, humility, and grace to make others always feel comfortable and at ease in every setting. He was truly a role model of Christ's love.”

   Mr. Robert M. "Mike" Scott
The Christian and Missionary Alliance Foundation Board

From Ravi Zacharias International Ministries:

“Ron Eastman was one of the most godly Christian gentlemen I have ever known. His humility was disarming, his reach was worldwide, his love for Jesus Christ and his family was exemplary. I miss his wisdom and genuine friendship. We will meet in our Lord's presence some day."
