Dr. Charles T. Awasu is Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Sociology. Dr. Awasu received his B.A. from Cape Coast University, M.S. from University of Southern New Hampshire, and a Ph.D. from Syracuse University. At Syracuse University, Dr. Awasu was the recipient of African Economic Research Consortium Award and Baker Foundation Fellowship. Previously, he served as a consultant to the US Agency for International Development and Visiting Assistant Professor at Le Moyne College. He has written articles and case studies on privatization and economic reform in Africa, the most recent of which are Finance and Economic Development: The Changing Role of Government and Political and Economic Liberalization in Africa. Dr. Awasu has been at Nyack College since 1999. His academic interests are in: economic sociology, political sociology, international development, international political economy, and urban community development.

He met his wife Julie at Grove City College where they both attended in the early eighties. They have been married for almost 25 years and have 3, by the grace of God, saved & wonderful, children: Sam attends Grove City College and majors in Business Communications/PR, Joe is finishing High School and plays lacrosse and basketball, Emily attends High School and participates in tennis and Odyssey of the Mind. Ron is in his 2nd decade of teaching at Nyack.
He accepted Christ at a Billy Graham event as a child. The seed didn't produce fruit until years later. Near the end of highschool, Ron began reading the Bible. During college, commitment to God became whole hearted devotion (as opposed to select bits & pieces). God has been abundantly merciful and gracious to him.
Ron has attended: Grove City College (B.A.-Double Major: Religion & Psychology); Pittsburgh Theological Seminary (36 credit hours); Villanova University (M.S. in Counseling); Syracuse University (A.B.D. Child & Family Studies); and, Biola University (Ph.D. in Education). His academic study focuses on adolescents and attachment relationships.

Joel Jameson, Bass, has enjoyed a prolific performing career. As a leading Bass he has performed a wide range of Verdi Bass roles including: Ramfis and the King in Aida; Sparafucile in Rigoletto; Padre Guardiano in La Forza del Destino; the Friar in Don Carlo; Wurm in Luisa Miller; and Dr. Grenvil and Marquis in La Traviata. In other Bass roles he has performed Sarastro in Die Zauberflote; Figaro in Le Nozze di Figaro; Leporello, Il Commendatore, and Masetto in Don Giovanni; Colline in La Boheme, and Ralph in La Jolie de Perth. Noted debuts include the prestigious Caramoor Opera Festival in Katonah, New York, singing the role of Gazella with Will Crutchfield conducting Lucrezia Borgia; Houston Grand Opera singing the Fifth Jew in Salome conducted by Christoph Eschenbach with the Houston Symphony; and Minnesota Opera singing the King of Egypt in Aida conducted by Richard Buckley. Other companies include, Pittsburgh Opera, Sarasota Opera, Opera North Carolina, Cleveland Opera, Opera Festival of New York, Long Island Opera, West Side Opera, and Opera Illinois.
He has studied Voice and Operatic coaching with Dodi Protero, Dr. Tom Cleveland, Metropolitan Opera Bass Jerome Hines and his wife Lucia Evangelista Hines. Mr. Jameson participated in and worked directly with Jerome Hines in his young artist development program, Opera Music Theater International, (OMTI) of Newark, New Jersey where he was introduced to Mr. Hines’ opera, I Am the Way. Recently, Mr. Jameson had the privilege of performing the role of Jesus in the Resurrection of Lazarus scene and holds the distinction of the only Bass who has performed Jesus in this scene since the death of Mr. Hines.
Mr. Jameson, a noted specialist in German Lieder, has recently studied with Ms. Margo Garrett at the Juilliard School of Music. His studies culminated in a recital tour of Franz Schubert’s Winterreise. The tour ended with his debut at Paul Recital Hall, Juilliard School of Music.
As a concert artist, he has performed the Bass solos in Mozart’s Requiem with the Dartmouth Glee Club; Verdi’s Requiem and Handel’s Messiah.
As a conductor, he has held several church positions as Director of Choirs where he has conducted Handel’s Messiah, Mendelssohn’s Elijah and Hear My Prayer, and Mozart’s Requiem as well as countless individual works. His recent achievements with the Nyack College Chorale have been two concert performances with MidAmerica Productions at Carnegie Hall performing Morton Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna, and Eugene Butler’s Emmanuel. He has taken the choir on three domestic tours and currently is planning a European Tour to England, Wales, and Scotland. Mr. Jameson received his Bachelors degree in vocal performance from Illinois Wesleyan University, Masters degree in vocal performance from the University of Southern California, and an Artist’s Diploma in Opera at Duquesne University. Before coming to Nyack full time in 1993 he spent 20 years as a full time youth pastor. He continues to minister to youth as a junior high volunteer at Living Christ Church here in Nyack.
Len received his BA from the University of Washington, his M.Div. from the North American Baptist Seminary, and a Ph.D. (Sociology) from Fordham University in New York City. He speaks and presents seminars around North America and the world. He has written eight books: two for youth, three for parents of teenagers, and three for youth workers. His 2009-2010 research projects include Feminism and the Female Religious Youth Worker, The Youth Ministry Volunteer: The Untold Story, and Youth Ministry Graduates: A Longitudinal Study.

Tammy Lum, pianist is an international performer and pedagogue. She has won multiple competitions, including the 1990 Leschetizky Foundation Competition, which presented her in her U.S. solo debut at Carnegie Recital Hall in the same year, the 1990 Competition of the Five Town Music and Arts Foundation, the 1988 Manhattan School of Music Concerto Competition, the 1988, The Mieczyslaw Munz Foundation Scholarship Competition, and the 1987 William Boyd Competition. She was also a prizewinner of the 1995 New Orleans International Piano Competition, and the Young Keyboard Artists Association (1985). Her solo piano CD recording, “My Treasure Box” was released by Hugo Productions, Inc. in 1999. Recent performances, workshops and collaborations include recitals and master class tours in America, China and Hong Kong; commissioning of Thomas Oboe Lee’s Piano Quintet and its world premiere with the award winning Formosa Quartet (2008); presentation of “The Twilight Stood” a “one-act opera” of Emily Dickinson song cycle by Leon Kirchner with soprano, Beverly Hoch at the College Music Society’s 50th Anniversary National Conference in Salt Lake City (2007) Utah; chamber music collaboration with the Amasi Trio, which recorded William Vollinger’s “Trio Parables” and “Violinist in the Mall,” winning the 2005 Friends and Enemies of New York; and violist, Lawrence Dutton, bassist, John Patitucci, and violinist, Joseph Lin. Ms. Lum also produced and performed multimedia piano programs for the Hong Kong International Arts Carnival Festival. Prof. Miguel Sánchez is Assistant Professor of Sociology and the Primary Designated School Official for international students at Nyack College. He received his B.A. from Fordham University in New York City, his M.A. in Intercultural Studies at Alliance Theological Seminary, and is currently working on the Ph.D. thesis at Fordham University in the area of Race and Ethnicity, specifically the experience of Latino students at four-year private colleges. Prof. Sanchez brings to the classroom an extensive background in college administration having served as Director of Admissions for thirteen years. During that time he specialized in the area of intercultural and minority recruitment. His knowledge of immigration policy and students’ cross-cultural educational compliments his contribution to the classroom and the development of diverse ethnic groups on campus. In 1999, God called them back to New York to train and equip a generation to comprehend the love of God and live passionately for the Lord Jesus Christ. Wanda continued her education at Alliance Theological Seminary by getting her Master’s Degree in Intercultural Studies. She is currently in her fifth year as the Director of Spiritual Formation at Nyack College where she lives with her husband, Ron and four teenage children, Kelly, Brice, Karis and Karly. She is also an adjunct professor in the pastoral ministry department teaching such classes as Introduction to Women in Ministry, Introduction to Spiritual Formation and Developing a Woman’s Gifts and Calling. His church service has been in Girard, Pennsylvania, Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
He and his family moved to Nyack, New York in the summer of 2006 where he currently serves as the Campus Pastor for Nyack College. He is also working on his M.Div. at Alliance Theological Seminary.
