Associate of Science with Major in Music Degree
This two-year program provides an Associate’s Degree in Music. Students may take this major to acquire a diploma in two years and then consider further studies, such as the BS in Music in Worship. Graduates of this program will also increase their opportunities for employment in music-related fields music by virtue of having this valuable diploma.
With a rich variety of majors and concentrations, the Music student at Nyack College will receive the professional training he or she needs for success in the industry or ministry of music, as well as strong spiritual support and mentoring on the way to graduation. Students learn their craft well and receive a high degree of encouragement which stands them in good stead in a very competitive field.
The two-year program, Associate of Science with Major in Music, particularly assists those who are working in related fields and have the opportunity to complete two years of study. This intense program consists of Core curriculum in the Liberal Arts as well as a rich introduction to music study and practice. Lessons, Ear Training/Sight Singing, Theory, and Ensemble are all included in the two-year program.
The Associate Degree enriches your career opportunities and makes you more employable and capable within your chosen profession, such as one of the following:
- Worship Leader, or Assistant Music Minister
- Church vocal, instrumental, or keyboard soloist
- Public School Teacher’s Aid
- Private or Church School Music Teacher
- Music Business Associate Support (Management)

- Performing and Recording Artist
A number of students graduating with the AS Degree have gone on to the BS Degree, have made studio recordings, serve in music ministry, and are serving as teacher’s assistants. A recent graduate served in management at one of the key music performance centers in the city of New York. Another has released her first album of popular music.
Prof. Darryl Jordan teaches Vocal Jazz Ensemble, Jazz and Gospel Harmony, and Applied Voice. Jazz students also enjoy the teaching of Prof. Chris Hughes, who teaches Percussion and Small Jazz Ensemble, and Arranging, and Prof. Jon Werking, who teaches Applied Piano, specializing in Jazz, Songwriting, and Music Technology.
