School of Music: Audition Process

Acceptance from Nyack College
In order to become a music major here at Nyack College or receive an ensemble grant, you must first be accepted into Nyack College. You may request a mail in application, apply online, or come visit us here on campus and fill out an application in person!

Music Student Questionnaire
This is a short survey of your prior music experience and interests.  Submitting this gives the School of Music a chance to get to know you, and where you stand musically, as well as what you plan to do with the music education you receive while at Nyack. This link will take you directly to the questionnaire web page.  It will only take a few minutes to complete.

Music Teacher Recommendation Form/Letter
A letter of recommendation from your private music teacher or school ensemble director is an excellent way for us to hear from someone who knows your musical level very well.

Schedule an Audition

In order to audition in person, you must first confirm a date and time that works for both you and the music faculty, especially during the summer weeks.  Please plan three days which would work for you so we may plan accordingly.  You may call the Music Office anytime between Monday and Friday during business hours (9:00AM-4:30PM) at (845) 675-4687. You may also contact our Administrative Assistant at

Applicants who live farther than 200 miles or who have no transportation to the campus due to certain circumstances may audition via a high quality CD, DVD, Facebook or YouTube Video.  If you are posting your audition on YouTube or Facebook, you must send the Music Office a working link to your video as well as a list of titles and composers.   You must follow the requirements listed for the program/ensemble you are auditioning for.

Confirm Accompanist

When you audition (except for keyboard and guitar) you will be responsible to arrange for an accompanist.  You may bring your own. However if that is not possible, you may request a Nyack accompanist.  Fax your music at least a week in advance to (845) 348- 8838, or email it in PDF format to
