Bachelor of Music in Music Education


Nyack’s Music Education major is designed to train teachers in elementary and secondary school music in accordance with the requirements of the Division of Teacher Education and Certification of the Department of Higher Education of the State of New York. In New York, professional certification for teaching in public schools is open only to those with a master’s degree and three years of teaching experience. This curriculum, therefore, leads to recommendation for the initial certificate for teaching (K-12) in the elementary, middle, and high schools of New York.

What Will I Study?

Music Education majors will take courses in the liberal arts and sciences, Bible and Christian ministry, and the following music components:

  • Music Theory and Ear Training

  • Music Technology and Studio Recording

  • Specialized Training in Contemporary Worship Music

  • Composition and Arranging

  • Private Applied Lessons

  • Performance: Individual and Ensemble

Career Opportunities

Nyack’s Music Education graduates are highly qualified for New York State, out-of-state, public, private, and Christian school positions. Graduates have the qualifications and flexibility to work for international or domestic ministries as well.
