Mrs. Wanda Walborn - Director of Spiritual Formation, Nyack College Rockland Campus

Wanda Walborn is currently in her ninth year as the Director of Spiritual Formation at the Rockland County campus of Nyack College. The 1984 Nyack alumna is also an adjunct lecturer in Nyack’s College of Bible and Christian Ministry where she teaches courses such as Introduction to Women in Ministry, Introduction to Spiritual Formation, and Developing a Woman’s Gifts and Calling. She also earned a master's degree in intercultural studies at Alliance Theological Seminary. Whether she is inside or outside of the classroom, Wanda lives out her passion, which is to train and mentor emerging leaders. As she pours into the lives of young men and women, her desire is that they grasp the depth and breath of God’s love for them and that they live lives without compromise for the Lord Jesus Christ.

With her husband, Dr. Ronald Walborn, dean of Alliance Theological Seminary, she planted and pastored Risen King Community Church in Redding, California from 1989-1999. In addition to her experience in church leadership, she also draws from her roles as pastor’s wife, homemaker, mother, and educator, as she speaks at venues around the globe to audiences that include both laypeople and leaders.

The Walborns are the parents of four children, Kelly, Brice, Karis, and Karly. In her “free” time, she enjoys sports, reading, the outdoors and-above all, spending time with her family.

Mrs. Jackie Quinn - Singer/Speaker/Author, Wildflower Ministries; Students, Alliance Theological Seminary

Founder of Wildflower Ministries, Jackie Quinn is a nationally-recognized Christian singer, inspirational speaker and author.  She is best known for her Raging Wildflower and Celebrate the Child recordings, her Spirit of the Plains Magazine columns and book reviews, her Fill My Cup women’s events, and her inspirational book At the End of Myself featured on internationally syndicated Cornerstone TeleVision.  She is also a national spokesperson for the Stop Child Trafficking Now campaign. 

A seasoned and gifted communicator, Jackie has shared the stage with numerous well-known Christian musicians and speakers.  On the national platform or in the local church, Jackie passionately seeks to magnify God and His transforming work in her life as she brings a rare and refreshing message of hope to those struggling with self-reliance. 

Originally from the Midwest, Jackie followed her husband Ted’s collegiate men’s basketball coaching career to Nyack College in Nyack, New York where they share their unconventional lives with their proudest achievements: daughter Jenna (8 yrs.), and son Kellen (4 yrs.).  Jackie is currently pursuing her Masters degree in Pastoral Counseling at Alliance Theological Seminary.

Dr. Amy Davis - Assistant Professor of Bible and Theology, Nyack College

Dr. Amy Davis has been teaching since 1995, and began preaching even before that. She started teaching in Paraguay, using her education degree from Grove City College, where she also had opportunities to preach in Spanish. Since 2002 she has been teaching at Nyack College, having completed her M.Div. from Alliance Theological Seminary; in 2010 she earned her Ph.D. in Liturgical Studies from Drew University, bringing her to her current position of Assistant Professor of Theology and Bible. Some of her favorite courses include Worship: Ancient and Future, Classic Christian Spirituality, and Male and Female in Biblical Perspective. Amy prioritizes experiential learning, and whether in the United States or abroad, she brings passion and intellect to her teaching, writing, academic presentations, preaching, and ministry. Since her dissertation was entitled, “Rites of Passage for Women…” she takes special interests in the development and needs of women of any age, vocation, or status. She is an inspirational retreat speaker and seminar facilitator. In her free time, she enjoys competitive sports, photography, climbing mountains, travel, learning languages, and the creative arts.

Ms. Evena Lavalasse - Worship Leader; Admissions Associate/Student Alliance Theological Seminary

Evena Lavalasse works for Alliance Theological Seminary as an Admissions Associate. Having earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Fordham University, she is currently pursuing her master’s degree in Marriage & Family Therapy at Alliance Theological Seminary. She feels called to work with families within churches to bring holistic healing to the Body of Christ. Evena is currently the Worship Leader, Choir Director, and Youth/Young Adult Director of Salem Church of God in Spring Valley, NY. She is a member of Salem Church’s Pastoral Counsel Board and the New York State Church of God Music Board. Evena is deeply passionate about ministering through music and is currently working on her first album to bring glory to the King.

Ms. Catherine Cha - Attorney; Adjunct Lecturer, Nyack College; Admissions Associate/Teaching Assistant/Student, Alliance Theological Seminary

Catherine Cha serves at Alliance Theological Seminary as an admissions associate and teaching assistant to Dr. Ron Walborn. She is also an adjunct lecturer in the Department of Sociology & Criminal Justice at Nyack College, where this fall, she is teaching "Ethical Issues in Criminal Justice."

She earned a B.A. in East Asian Studies at Columbia University and a J.D. at Boston University School of Law. After graduating from law school, she served as a federal judicial law clerk in the Southern District of New York. When she is not on campus at Nyack College or ATS, Catherine continues to work for private clients as an estate planning attorney. In her spare time, she is completing her M.A. in Biblical Literature - Old Testament at ATS, sings with the worship team at New Hope Fellowship in Tarrytown, NY, and co-leads the Missions & Outreach team there. Catherine’s wildest dream is to cultivate Christ's heart in coming generations, and to raise up Christians who will love the world and bring the Gospel to the ends of the earth, so that Jesus Christ will come.

Mrs. Tracy Walker - Educator, Wife, and Mother

Tracy Walker was an elementary school teacher before she became "Mom" to three amazing boys.  She and her husband Doug live and work at Nyack College.  Laughter is the key to survival in a house full of men, as she often finds herself overwhelmed by dirt, noise, and Legos.  As Director of Children's Ministry at All Souls Community Church in Chestnut Ridge, her job is to encourage and equip parents as they "train up their children in the way they should go."

Mrs. Wanda Velez - Dean of Students, Nyack College Rockland Campus

Wanda Velez, Nyack College Dean of Students, is a 1996 graduate of Nyack College and a 2001 graduate of Alliance Theological Seminary. In addition to her relationship with the institution as student and alumna, she has worn several hats as an employee. In the Office of Advancement, she served as Director of Alumni Relations and Special Events for Nyack/ATS. She is a former Director of Residence Life and a member of the Student Development staff. For the past three summers, she has served The Salvation Army’s Star Lake Camp, as a consultant, providing leadership development and staff training.

"Miss Wanda," as she is known to many, is one of the youngest spiritual mothers who has walked the Nyack campus. She especially speaks life into the sometimes shattered worlds of young women. It is because of her authentic, down-to-earth personality that she has been endeared to students and her colleagues. In her role as a spiritual director and small group leader for Nyack’s Personal Spiritual Formation class, many have benefited from her compassionate mentoring.

Dr. Anita Underwood - Dean of the School of Business and Leadership, Nyack College

Dr. Anita Underwood is the dean of the School of Business and Leadership and the founding director of the Masters of Science in Organizational Leadership at Nyack College.

She is an organizational psychologist with extensive global experience working with leaders of Fortune 100 companies, educational, and faith based institutions in the areas of strategic formulation, leadership development, and change management.  

Dr. Underwood began her career as manager of international education for UNISYS Corporation, where she was responsible for organization development services for their European Africa Division in Uxbridge, England.  She continued her career in the corporate world holding various senior and executive level positions at Equitable and PepsiCo. Before transitioning out of the corporate arena, she was vice president of organizational management at Dun and Bradstreet.

Dean Underwood earned a B.A. from Spelman College; an M.A. in clinical psychology from Fisk University, a joint program with Meharry Medical College; and a Ph.D. in community psychology from The University of Michigan.

Dr. Marcia Lucas, Director of the Alliance Graduate School of Counseling, Manhattan Campus

Dr. Marcia Lucas is the director of the Alliance Graduate School of Counseling (AGSC) at Nyack’s New York City campus. A full-time professor, who has spent more than 15 years in the academic arena, Dr. Lucas is the founder of Healing Hearts Christian Counseling, a private mental health practice with a holistic perspective that encourages spiritual and emotional healing for urban families.

The native New Yorker earned her B.S.N. at Lehman College, an M.S. at Yale University and her Psy.D. at Yeshiva University Graduate School of Psychology. Her concentration is in child and adolescent mental health. She is the recipient of the Kellogg Fellowship Foundation Award in Urban Studies from the Montefiore-Einstein Medical Center and is listed in the Who’s Who at Yale University.

The Bronx Borough president awarded Dr. Lucas with a citation for providing outstanding mental health services during the World Trade Center 9-11 crisis and worked for FEMA (Project Liberty) as a counselor for individuals and families suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder following the 9-11 attack.

A popular conference and retreat speaker, she has served as a consultant on mental health at the United Nations and is a consultant psychologist at The Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral.

Ms. Percelene McLain, Director of Women’s Leadership, Living Word Community Church Nyack College Social Work Department Administrative Assistant

Ms. Percelene MCLain has worked at Nyack College for nearly a decade and currently serves as the Department of Social Work administrative assistant. She has excelled in that profession for more than twenty-five years. 

She also maintains a full schedule as a mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, friend, full-time Nyack College employee, part-time Nyack College student, minister, mentor, and counselor.  Recently widowed, she was married to her bosom buddy, John MCLain, for fourteen years.  Her family is her pride and joy, which is obvious by the smile on her face whenever she discusses them. 

Oftentimes students, faculty, and staff drop by her Nyack New York City campus office for encouragement, prayer, or just a listening ear. A social work major, she is humbled by these opportunities and praises GOD for the ability, the strength, and the wisdom to assist whenever needed.

Affectionately known to most as “Percie,” she serves as the director of the Women’s Leadership Committee at Living Word Community Church in New  York City. She finds bringing women together for times of fellowship soul-satisfying. Her reward is seeing relationships established, women empowered, lives restored, and new hope given.
