Frequently Asked Questions

  • How many program assessments are required in a particular program?
    • This depends on the number of program student learning goals (SLG), and how broad or specific they are. Whatever the case, the number of program assessments should be enough to properly and accurately assess each one of the program student learning goals (SLG)
  • If all faculty teaching the same course within the same program now will have to use the same program assessment, does this mean that all of them will have to use the same text books?
    • Not necessarily, having a standard assessment means that the same skills and knowledge has to be common to all the same courses within the program even if they have different professors.  It does not mean however, that the professors need to use the same books or authors, unless specific authors and/or books are experts in the field and need to be referred to in all these classes.  Even in this case, this may not mean that all the books used in different sections of the course need to be the same.
  • Could we use LOM for course level assignments or is LOM just assessment at the program level?
    • Course level assignments can be built in LOM as long as they are also being used to assess performance based on the outcomes or program student learning goals (SLG) set for the program.
  • In the program learning goals assessment mapping chart or curriculum chart what does “Level” refers to?
    • Beyond knowing what are the assessments used to assess the performance level in each of the Program Student Learning Goals (SLG) or Student Learning Outcomes, the assessment mapping chart allows us to know what is the content level delivered to students in each course of the program with regard to each Program Student Learning Goal (SLG) or Student Learning Outcome (SLO) of that program, even if there is no assessment given or associated to a particular course.
  • Who activates an eCompanion?
    • Building content for each course in their respective eCompanion is the responsibility of the faculty teaching that course in a given semester.  Activating or making sure that eCompanion is available so that the faculty can build their content in it, is responsibility of the person in charge of eCollege for Nyack College, or the Website Coordinator, Melinda Kong.  She can be contacted at melinda.kong@nyack.edu.  For technical support you can call the Online Help Desk at 877-740-2213 (available 24/7) or send an email to helpdesk@nyackonline.org.
  • Who activates LOM in an eCompanion?
    • Building information related to Program Student Learning Goals (SLG), as well as Assessment related information, including Assessment Rubrics in the Learning Outcome Management system (LOM) will be done by the Office of Institutional Assessment.  For this, you can contact Roberto Chia by email at Roberto.Chia@nyack.edu.  However, it is the responsibility of all program chairs to provide this information to the Office of Institutional Assessment and to keep it up-to-date.
