Nyack College is a great place to recreate. Hike, Fish, Paddle, Climb, Bike, and more. Nyack is in the heart of Rockland County, a Preserve America Community with over 1/3 of its geography parkland. We love to be outside and enjoy being together. Here are some of the things available to NAC members:
Just uphill from a public river access point on the Hudson river, club members paddle kayaks, canoes, and SUP’s on the river. The club owns boats and members sometimes borrow from other members.
Whitewater paddling opportunities exist on the Sagandaga (Class III), The Delaware (Class II), The Hudson (Class III), the Moose (Class II, III, IV).
The adventure club offers kayak clinics and provides discounts on Kayak and SUP rentals through Eastern Mountain Sports.
The brakish water of this segment of the Hudson River provides access to incredible biodiversity of fish and crustraceons. Stripped Bass spawn on the Hudson.
Fresh Water fishing is available in nearby lakes and rivers Including Brown and Rainbow Trout in the Ramapo River, Bass and Perch in the Seven Lakes, and Muskelunge in Rockland Lake.
Saltwater Fishing options are plentiful in the Long Island Sound, beyond the New York Harbor, the South shore of Long Island and the Jersey Shore.
From the administration building, one can hike to the Long Path to the Appalachian trail in Harriman Park and either south to Georgia or north to Mt. Katadin in Maine. Trails are plentiful. The Nyack Adventure club conducts trail maintenance days to help protect our local trails.
An hour away from great east coast climbing at the Gunks, a variety of Climbing gyms can be found in the New York metro area.
MTB opportunities are excellent. Jackson Avenue has great trails, as does Stewart AFB. The club does not have bikes so bring your own and we will ride.
Nyack College is a very popular place to ride. Lance Armstrong has ridden the roads of Rockland County, which is a very popular course for roadies riding north from New York City. Hundreds of miles of roads, most of them over hills, makes for adventure and speed.
The NAC currently has pro-deals with Northwest River Supply and Gregory Packs. Regular orders are made through the club. NAC also has a gear loft for members to sign out for hikes and paddle trips.
