Meet the Director of Nyack College Online Masters in Mental Health Counseling


 

Dr. Lisa Steiner, Ph.D., LMHC, LPC, MBA is the Director of the Online Masters in Mental Health Counseling at Nyack College. She completed her Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision at Regent University and her MA in Counseling at Nyack College / Alliance Graduate School of Counseling - Rockland campus. She also has her MBA in Finance from Pace University and her BS in both Business (Accounting) and Computer Science from Montclair State University.

As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the State of New York and a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of New Jersey, Dr. Steiner is the owner and a counselor at Wellsprings Counseling Center, LLC with five locations throughout New York and New Jersey. Prior to becoming Director of the Online Masters in Mental Health Counseling at Nyack College, she was on full-time faculty at Nyack College / Alliance Graduate School of Counseling – New York City campus.

Dr. Steiner is committed to conducting research, with Nyack College’s MA in Counseling students, to examine the relationship between spiritual factors and mental health. As an outgrowth of her Fall 2013 AGSC-NYC Research class, she led an effort with three AGSC students and wrote a 14-page peer-reviewed article on the effect of initiator status, spousal infidelity, and spiritual well-being on men's divorce adjustment that was published in the Journal of Divorce & Remarriage in February 2015. In the summer of 2015, she facilitated the contributions of four AGSC students and wrote a 30-page article based on a study conducted by her Fall 2014 AGSC-NYC Research class. In August 2016 that article, entitled Spiritual Factors Predict State and Trait Anxiety, was published in the Journal of Health & Religion.

Furthermore, Dr. Steiner is a Certified Empowerment Coach and the President of Wellsprings Coaching Services, LLC. With her MBA and over twenty years of corporate experience, she was most recently a business executive at IBM, and she also held various other leadership and staff positions. As the parents of two young children, she and her husband have their hands full balancing their professional and personal responsibilities.
