The School of Music shares the following information on an upcoming spring event.
The Nyack College Rockland Campus Opera Workshop class will present a full production of Giacomo Puccini’s “La Boheme.” Performances are at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 24; Saturday, April 26; and Friday, May 2 and at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 4 in Pardington Hall, on the Rockland Campus. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for students, and $5 for senior citizens. English translation for the Italian lyrics will be provided in the program.
One of the world’s most popular operas, which premiered in Italy in 1896, “La Boheme” showcases Puccini’s familiar, beautiful melodies that draw audiences into the comedy, passion and tragedy that makes this such a great musical work.
Says workshop Director Shelley Jameson, “It is paramount to me that young singers have the opportunity to perform operas in their entirety. How will they know if they want to accept the challenges of the opera business if they have not yet performed in an opera?” Conductor for the performance is Joel Jameson and musical director is David Maiullo. Costume design is by Jane Hebert.
