New York State Reading Association Conference 2010 in Saratoga Springs, New York

The only occasion when it is proper for a professor to teach pre-service teachers how to “beg” is while attending a really great reading conference! The pre-service teachers pictured, along with nine others, learned how to persuade representatives from such companies as National Geographic and Zaner-Bloser to surrender coveted books, game boards, and handwriting materials which will line the bookshelves of future childhood education classrooms. A chance to attend the annual reading conference in Saratoga Springs, New York allows Nyack College junior education students the chance to not only dream about the future classroom but to engage and interact with workshop topics on a “here and now” professional level. Truly, the opportunity to hear a reading specialist discuss the merits of Response to Intervention (RTI) is very stimulating, but being able to hear a favorite children’s book author read from his or her own manuscript is just the “icing on the cake”!
