Annual School of Education Annual Awards Dinner

 

The annual School of Education Awards Dinner was held in Hilltop on Thursday, April 24, 2014. We enjoyed a festive dinner catered by Harry’s Burritos of downtown Nyack.

Dr. Looney offered warm words of welcome and encouragement. She showed the preview of our promotional video featuring several of our education majors touting the blessings of being part of our School of Education.

Dr. Harrigan served as emcee. He brought warm mirth to the festivities with amusing anecdotes and jokes about teaching. During dinner a slide show played photos of various SOE events. Following dinner was the presentation of awards, which are listed below.

Hannah Plock, an Early Childhood Education major, was the recipient of the esteemed Apple Award for Student Teacher of the Year. We congratulate Hannah and all our student teachers for 2013-2014!

We are very proud of our students in the School of Education, and we wish them well as we wrap up the year and move on to new things!

Barnabas Award: Outstanding Collaborator in Methods’ Groupwork — For a junior who is consistently a good teammate, punctual, responsible, and encouraging.

Outstanding Professionalism in Fieldwork for Juniors — For the junior who consistently displayed promptness, professional dress, and rapport with the children and cooperating teachers in fieldwork.

Educator of Promise — For the junior who demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and dispositions in methods courses for being an excellent educator.

Design, Delivery, and Creativity in Instruction — For the junior whose lessons and unit plans are well thought-through, interesting, motivating, and presented clearly in class presentations.

Excellence in Teaching — For the student teachers who address the needs of diverse individuals, demonstrate mastery of pedagogical knowledge (as evidenced by achieving at least a 3.5 Education GPA), show creativity and innovation in lesson planning and delivery, and receive positive evaluations by college supervisor and cooperating teacher (as evidenced by earning an A in both placements).
