Dr. Vilma "Nina" Balmaceda, Associate Professor of Political Science, delivered the keynote address at the opening session of the 11th Convention of the Inter-American Federation of Christian Jurists (FIAJC, according to its initials on Spanish and Portuguese) on September 3, 2015.  The convention attracted the participation of more than 120 Latin American lawyers and law professors who focused their efforts on analyzing the problem of increasing violence in Latin America.

Dr. Balmaceda also participated as a panelist on "Violence against Women and Children" on Sept. 4, and on "Common Crime and the Promise of Restorative Justice" on Sept. 5. The full program can be found on www.fiajc.org.

As a result of the deliberations during the FIAJC Convention, Dr. Balmaceda presided over the Assembly that unanimously approved the Declaration on San Salvador, a compelling call to work against the root causes of violence in Latin America.  The Declaration has been published in Salvadoran newspapers, such as "El Diario de Hoy" and "Co-Latino," and can be read online in Spanish at:
