Nyack, NY- The men's basketball team would be handed a narrow defeat this evening in a conference game against rival Dominican College at Bowman Gymnasium.
Nyack would lead Dominican by a score 19-18 seven minutes into the contest, but Dominican would rally with a 18-10 run to lead 37-28 with one and half minutes remaining in the period. Nyack would close out the half with a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 4 points at the break.
In the 2nd half, Nyack would quickly tie the game at 41-41 but Dominican would stretch their lead back out to 9 points with just over five and a half minutes to play. Nyack would respond with an 8 point outburst in the next minute of play, fueled by 2 three-point strikes by Freshman Chris Hampton.
The Chargers would convert at the line in the closing moments of the contest and a last second 3 point effort by Hampton would fall just short as Dominican would hold on for the 76-73 victory.
Chris Hampton would lead Nyack with a team high 27 points on 8-17 shooting from the floor. Senior Lafayette Curtis also turned in a strong performance with 16 points and 4 blocks. Jose Pena-Benjamin and Khalid Samuels also reached double figures in scoring with Pena-Benjamin pulling down a team high 8 rebounds and Samuels adding 4 assists.
Nyack returns to action next Wednesday when they play host to Bloomfield College at 8 PM.
