Nyack, NY- The men's basketball team was defeated in a back and forth contest that featured 8 lead changes and 7 ties against Holy Family University this afternoon in Bowman Gymnasium by a score of 77-71. The loss drops the Warriors season record to 0-15 and conference record to 0-5.
The Warriors would lead by as many as 9 points in the first half at 28-19 with just under 5 minutes to play in the period before taking a 36-32 lead into the half. Nyack would push its lead back to 10 points at 52-42 six minutes into the 2nd half after a 3-pointer by Jose Pena-Benjamin.
Holy Family would answer with a 21-11 run of their own to tie the game at 63-63 with five and a half minutes remaining in the game. With under a minute to play and the score tied 70-70, the Tigers would create a key turnover and convert from the free throw line in the closing seconds to win 77-71.
Four Warriors would reach double figures in scoring in the losing effort. Chris Hampton would post a career high 23 points on 8-16 shooting from the floor. Khalid Samuels would also total 15 points and dish out a team high 5 assists. Chris Gibson and Lafayette Curtis also reached double figures with 11 points each.
Nyack will return to conference action this Tuesday when they host Concordia College at 8 PM.
