Bronx, NY (September 17, 2011) -- The 8k at Fordham University’s Invitational held at Vancortland Park began with ideal running conditions. Nyack College started and finished the meet phenomenally strong, as they pack-ran the majority of the race, resulting with the entire top-5 finishing under 29:50. Sophomores Keith Lindsey and Robert Lafond achieved PR’s as well, contributing to producing the program's fastest ever performance at this meet. Vancortland Park has it’s reputation of being the hardest course in the New York State.
It was definitely a thrilling learning experience taking on the many challenges of this event, racing amongst some new competition, and to even see two rival schools present from their CACC Conference. Guild, Lafond, and Lindsey were seconds away from being in the high 28’s and the trio successfully finished before rival, Philadelphia University’s 5th runner in.
Colin English from Ramapo College individually won the meet overall in a respectable 25:07 out of 155 competitors. The men’s team from East Stroudsburg University achieved 1st place with 52 points. Rowan University was the 2nd best team with 59 points, and Deleware – 3rd place with 108 points.
Nyack has the weekend off from racing next Saturday as the group engages in a team community service project. They will resume racing again on Saturday, September 24th for the Philly Metro Classics 8k at Belmont Plateau – Philadelphia, PA.
