POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (September 3, 2011) – The Nyack College Men's Cross Country team captured 4th place to kick-off the 2011 season at the Vassar College Invitational.
The defending champions from Vassar won the 10-team field, finishing the 6k race with 18 points. Stevens Institute of Technology was the closest team to Vassar with 54 points, followed by SUNY New Paltz with 61, Nyack (126) and Bard (173) among the top five team finishers.
Captain Stuart Guild was the first runner in for the Nyack Team, followed by Sophomores Keith Lindsay and Robert Lafond. Senior Benjamin Wallin was next in line and Sophomore Joubert Derival sealed the last spot to close the top-5 for these Warriors.
“You guys are right where you need to be” – says Head Coach Wendy Muckell to her team – “I couldn’t be happier with a great start.” Almost all of the returners PR’d on this course from their times here last season, which contributed to their improvement from placing 7th last year. Assistant Coach Latia Deylii adds: “our men had an amazing pre-season and ran a smart controlled race today. It’s early in the season and this outcome really exceeded our expectations.”
The Running Warriors will resume racing on Saturday, September 10 at the Fordham Fiasco Invitational at Vancortland Park – Bronx, NY.
