Cedarville, OH--- The National Christian College Athletic Association had their Women's Championship 5k Race this past Saturday (11/13/2010). The competitors were greeted by 55 degree weather with sunny and dry conditions at the Elvin R King Cross Country Course. Senior Sharon Fetters was the top finisher for Nyack as the Warriors finished in 14th place out of the 21 schools present.
Fetters completed the 5,000 meter course in 19:29, hitting her PR for this season and finished in an impressive 22nd place out of 148 runners. This was her first time in her college career being apart of the NCCAA Championships. Lizzie Rigotti was 55th in 20:40, and broke another personal record for the second week in a row, while Deborah McCarthy finished 80th in 21:32. Rounding out the rest of the Top 5 Warrior line-ups were Allie Roma (84th; 21:43) and Bethany Allison (122nd; 23:49).
After the meet, all schools came together for a formal dinner banquet/awards ceremony. Sharon Fetters, Lizzie Rigotti, Deborah McCarthy, Allie Roma, Anne Jackson, and Sarah Beach were the Junior’s and Seniors who represented Nyack College, in recognition of being the 2010 NCCAA Scholar Athletes of The Year." Fetters, was also a Bullock Award Nominee and missed the NCCAA All-American award (runners 11-20) by two places.
Malone won the 21 team meet with 46 points. Indiana Wesleyan was the runner-up with 51 points and Colorado Christian was third with 128.
Nyack’s coaching staff is very proud of their team for all their recognitions and for running hard in such a competitive championship race, for the school's first time in four years.
Next weekend the ladies make their way to Boston, MA for what will be their last race of the season; NCAA Regionals - Sunday November 21,2010.
