Albany, NY – After taking a few weeks off from competing, the men's cross country team made their return this past Saturday (10/16/10) at UAlbany's 44th Annual 8k Invite. This meet had two races to choose from: The Purple Race or The Championship Race. The Running Warriors ran The Championship Race, a faster paced race consisting of more competitively skilled Division I and higher level Division II cross country athletes. This challenge did not intimidate Nyack at all but rather worked in their favor, as the entire men's team PR'd for this season (PR: your best time in a race of a specific distance).
Stuart Guild, finished 1st for the Nyack team in a time of 28:31. Captain Aaron Baldwin, behind in training since his foot surgery this past summer, was still able to pull off an amazing 29:26. Ben Wallin and Robert Lafond not too far, trail in at 29:35 and 29:44 at the Albany meet. Keith Lindsay concluded the Top-5 scoring with a time of 31:21. Stephen Mitzel has had a tough time this season since his achilles injury. He has been out for most of the season but nonetheless continues to get better. Mitzel finished his last race in 37:28 and this past Saturday at Albany, finished in 31:34.
Expect big things from this group of men! With most of them still not running at their fastest, time will continue to heal all wounds and the coaching staff strategically continues carrying out their running program. Hard work lies ahead for the rest of this week as they prepare and train for Saturday, October 23rd 2010. The Running Warriors look forward and will be making their way to Long Island, NY this weekend for the St. Joseph's 8k Invitational.
