Warriors, Levins receive accolades, move on to regionals
Men's Baseball
New Haven, CT (5/8/08) - Before moving on to the postseason next week, the Nyack College Warrior baseball team picked up some impressive recognition from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference as announced by the CACC office today.  Cody Levins (Jr. McKinney, TX), capped a record-breaking regular season by being named the 2008 CACC Player of the Year.  Levins, a 1st Team All-CACC selection at 1st base, had an outstanding season that included breaking the school records in batting average (.433), on-base percentage (.513) and slugging percentage (.709).  Those marks also placed Levins near the top in the CACC record book (batting avg.- 2nd, on-base % -tied for 2nd, slugging % - 4th).  Opposing pitchers were only able to fan Levins an amazing 9 times during 125 plate appearances. Phil Messerian (So., Fairlawn, NJ) was named 2nd Team All-CACC at the utility position.  Messerian tied for the top spot in the CACC with a 1.63 ERA, allowing only 10 earned runs in 56.2 innings of work.  Messerian proved to be one of the top flame throwers in the CACC also with 64 strikeouts (4th in the CACC) and a 10.35 strikeouts per 9 innings ratio (3rd in the CACC).  In addition to his work on the mound Messerian also played 3rd base and in the outfield for the Warriors.  He was one of the Warriors top hitters with a .315 batting avg., 39 hits and 15 RBI's. Joe Parisi (Fr., Clearwater Beach, FL) was picked as a All-CACC Honorable Mention selection.  Only a freshman, Parisi established himself as one of the top catchers in the CACC, his .292 batting avg. included an 11-game CACC hitting streak, 35 hits and 11 RBI's.  Parisi also racked up a .978 fielding percentage behind the dish while gunning down (29) over a 1/3 of the runners who attempted to steal against him. Head Coach, Jon Copeland, in his 2nd season at Nyack, is happy for his players,  "Cody and Joe are members of our first recruiting class this season and are both hard-working, hard-nosed ball players.  Phil is only a sophomore and is still getting better; having all three back next year is very beneficial for our program".  Copeland also appreciates the recognition from the CACC.  "I am honored by the recognition from my fellow CACC coaches.  This is a very competitive conference, with a number of very good ballplayers.  To be named to the All-CACC team is very special, and for Cody to receive the Player of the Year award is further evidence that Warrior Baseball is moving back to where it belongs".  Levins' award follows the CACC Pitcher of the Year award that graduated Warrior, Billy Gleason, received last season.  The Warriors, ranked 13th in the final regular season NCCAA Div. I poll, now move on to the postseason and to the NCCAA East Regional to be played next week in Ohio.  Jon Copeland
