Art Series: Andrew White, baritone

Monday, February 9th, 8:15 PM

Baritone, Andrew White performs “Fifteen Minutes of Fame,” a collection of contemporary art music, accompanied by pianist/composer David Wolfson.  He will also perform Britten’s arrangements of Purcell’s Harmonia Sacra and Stalin and the Little Girl, the story behind a propaganda photo, composed by William Vollinger and works by Wolfson, Billotta, and Bowles.

Art Series: Marcelo Lian, piano

Monday, February 23rd, 8:15 PM

Argentinean pianist, Dr. Marcelo Lian gives an interesting and insightful multimedia lecture recital on "The development of Argentinean Piano Music; its geographic, financial, and political circumstances." Music by known and lesser known Argentinean composers will be introduced and performed.

Nyack College alumnus, John Walsh, will dazzle us with Phillip Glass’s Metamorphosis I-V, The Hours, Gershwin’s Three Preludes and his famous Rhapsody in Blue.

Nyack College’s Trio in Residence will perform an exciting program, which will also be performed on their Florida tour.  Works include: Haydn, Parker, Liljestrand, Rachmaninoff & Piazzolla. Their CD is also available for purchase at this concert.

J.S. Bach’s birthday, his 330th, will be celebrated with performances of music by J.S. Bach, and his sons W.F. Bach, C.P.E. Bach, and even his grandson W. F. E. Bach! Performers will include Dr. Marie Herseth Kenote flute, Dr. Tammy Lum piano, and students.

Nyack College Opera Workshop will present Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi by Puccini, fully staged in costume.   Suor Angelica, staged in the 1600’s, is a tale of a Princess’ loss, repentance, and grace.  Gianni Schicchi, a comedy staged in 2015, tells the story of a greedy family trying to gain control of the estate of their deceased relative.

Suggested Donation: $15 adults, $10 children, students, and seniors


20th Century Concert

Wind Ensemble & Handbells Concert

Established in 1968, the Wind Ensemble is comprised of students, faculty, and community musicians performing works for concert band under the direction of Dr. Glenn Koponen. Selections by the Nyack Handbell Choir, directed by Jennifer Scott, will also be performed.

Hudson River Pianofest

Friday & Saturday, May 29-30

Dr. Tammy Lum, Artistic Director

Two days of master classes, workshops and performances in a nurturing environment at the idyllic Nyack College Rockland campus overlooking the Hudson River.  Featured artists and master teachers are Sergei Babayan. Christopher Oldfather, Alexandre Moutouzkin and Tammy Lum.  Open to pianists from late intermediate to advanced levels, observers, and chaperones.
