Nyack Scholars Symposium

J.S. Bach – A Man of Passion, Purpose and Position

Dr. Marie Herseth Kenote, presenter
Dr. Kenote will discuss Bach’s life, his enduring influence on later composers, and his excellent and varied writing for the traverse flute. Some of his most famous works will be presented.  Free Admission

Brooklyn Guitar Quartet

Friday, February 22nd 2:30 pm
Brooklyn Guitar Quartet is a professional guitar quartet whose members (at one point all living in Brooklyn) include Isabella Abbonizio, Carlos Cuestas, Jesse Miller and Lars Frandsen. Lars Frandsen is professor of guitar at the Manhattan Campus of Nyack College.
The quartet's repertoire spans all the major genres, but focuses in this concert season primarily on music by South American composers. The concert will feature music by Brazilian composers as well as contemporary music from Cuba.  Free Admission

Pianist Kevin Ayesh, virtuoso concert pianist, head of the Music Department at Blue Ridge Community College in Flat Rock, NC. performs a recital, featuring music by Mozart, Brahms, Starer and Chopin, followed by a masterclass with the music students from the a School of Music.  Free Admission

“The Dining Room”

Thursday, March 7th , 7:30 pm
Elements Theatre Company, of Orleans, Massachusetts will be performing A. R. Gurney’s Pulitzer-nominated play, The Dining Room, a mosaic of vignettes providing a window into a vanishing class of society from the 1930’s to the 1980’s. Seven actors play 59 characters in 18 scenes, swiftly and smoothly dovetailing from one to the next, illustrating an exceptional range of human relationships.  Free admission

Bach’s Birthday Bash

J.S. Bach’s birthday (his 327th) will be celebrated by the School of Music, with performances of music by J.S. Bach, and his sons W.F. Bach, C.P.E. Bach, and even his grandson Wilhelm Friedrich Ernst Bach! Performers will include Dr. Marie Herseth Kenote (flute), Dr. Tammy Lum (piano), and Nyack College music students. “The aim and final reason of all music should be nothing else but the Glory of God and the refreshment of the spirit.” J.S. Nyack School of Music’s 75th Anniversary Concert

This year the Nyack Rockland School of Music celebrates its 75th anniversary with the pièce de résistance of this milestone: The Nyack College Chorale in a Concert Celebrating “God’s Faithfulness” on Friday, April 5 at 7:30 p.m. at Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center located at Broadway and 65th Street in Manhattan. Suggested Donation: $15 adults, $10 children, students, seniors All proceeds from the donations will go to benefit the family of Jeff Chanin, of Pearl River, NY, husband and father of four, who was killed in superstorm Sandy. 

20th Century Music Concert

Spring Wind Ensemble & Handbell Concert

Established in 1968, the Wind Ensemble is comprised of students, faculty, and community musicians performing works for concert band under the direction of Dr. Glenn Koponen. Selections by the Nyack Handbell Choir, directed by Jennifer Scott, will also be performed.
